While we often recommend students consider a MacBook Air for school, or a Dell Premium laptop if they're set on Windows, Lenovo has comparable Yoga and Slim models that would serve much of the same function. Likewise, the new ThinkPad X9 series seems like a shoo-in for college campuses, being directly aimed at Apple's thin-and-light titans.
If you're on a tighter budget or your coursework doesn't require such a well-equipped machine, Lenovo's IdeaPad line would serve you better. This series provides budget-to-midrange systems for basic workloads and entertainment needs.

Yes I would say Lenovo is a very reliable laptop manufacturer. These are the ones I would suggest though Legion Pro 5 or 7 for gaming, these are built so well. The cooling and performance on them is really top of the line and also they usually sport a OLED which gives much more visual appeal. Lenovo Slim 7i Aura: their best slim laptop which really nice build quality Lenovo ThinkPad: honestly one of the most reliable laptops you can get for most use cases such as work, student, businesses, etc. Also lenovo's customer support is regarded as one of the best compared to the other manufacturer. They really take care of their customers well. And they have a lot of sales that goes on frequently, so I suggest you checking out for laptop deals on this reddit thread that updates weekly for laptop deals. Most people also recommend the thinkpad from lenovo laptops for college students .

Yes and no. It's not about the brand but ask which product line you get. Any manufacturer can have low end products that break and high end products that lasts for years. Lenovo is one of the top 3 manufacturers and is considered a very reputable company. Their high end business line and consumer line are highly rated. But avoid the low end IdeaPad 1, 3, and 5.

I am considering getting a new Lenovo laptop sometime in the next few months. My computer knowledge is very rudimentary so a lot of my online search haven't been very fruitful. What would be the best model that has a good balance of specs and price? Any recommendations or general advice for searching is appreciated.

If you're not going to game on it, a modern ThinkPad should do fine. For both gaming and school work, a Legion 5 or LOQ is good. The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 offers some serious specs too, but it's expensive. An IdeaPad Pro 5 is probably among the cheapest you can get that will give you a colour accurate display, metal build, good CPU and GPU (if you choose dedicated GPU variants), fast RAM and battery life.
