The color of light has nothing to do with them being good for plants or not. What you want is a full-spectrum light. I’ve been wanting to put some plants inside my room. Unfortunately, the room is at like a basement level so there’s only one window and not much natural sunlight can get in. I’m planning to put LED strip lighting on the walls and the colors can be adjusted to my liking. So I was wondering if these RGB lights can be set to be used as a grow light for the plants. 🤔

I think red/blue (purple) is what you want. I have an LED plant bulb that is just essentially LED nodes under a nice casing and it worked, we well as exposed nodes from another LED plant lamp and also worked. But I’ve also seen people use white light or fluorescent light and gotten good results. Depending on where you live, having purple grow lights shine through your window may or may not be the attention you want to attract (common weed bulb color is purple) lol also the plants look different under purple, they look less green because of the red in the light cancelling out the vibrancy. I think look into what white light can do for plants. Then you can also enjoy them fully visually. But LEDs in my experience have worked for plant growth. I made a small herb hydroponic system using red/blue LED lights when I lived in a basement studio apartment. Good luck!

Do Grow Lights Actually Work?

I use barrina T5 lights from Amazon. They’re super affordable and they have different light colors. I use the warm white ones because they have a cozy feel and don’t look pink or bluish like hospital lights (hard to tell in pics). The plants in this pic haven’t seen real sunlight in years! The only thing I’ve found that don’t do well under them are succulents/cacti. They’ll survive, they just won’t thrive or grow particularly fast. More on reddit.com
