Does RHEL 7 get updates even with ELS?
Guiding customers who need ELS for RHEL7
CentOS Linux 7 will reach EOL on Sunday
End-of-life dates for point releases (RHEL8/9)?
I've been running a server on RHEL 7 for some time now and noticed it hasn't gotten any updates recently. I understand that it's technically EOL, so I know that's the case but I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to ELS (Extended Life Support) in order to keep getting updates. Does anyone know if it even would still receive updates? Or is it kind of just dead in the water?
I've never needed to deal with Extended Lifecycle Support for anything RHEL until now. This year has been thinner on staffing, so lots of clients are behind on moving off of RHEL7.
I'm trying to advise them which support coverage to buy. I can't get what I feel is clear definition on "limited client" and "unlimited client" support. One client is a large organization with a big license for RHEL. They've got at least one Satellite server. There are pockets there that are actively trying to get to RHEL8 or 9, but need coverage for compliance. Which do they buy? Limited or Unlimited? Most are real systems, or VMs under VMWare, nothing virtualized under RHEL itself.
I assume they need one per system, likely the limited client support. Am I wrong?
(I had one person tell me to just get one, but I assume that's not legal if you have 12 boxes to cover.)
Thanks.
