Rhetological Fallacies – A list of Logical Fallacies & Rhetorical Devices with examples
Did I miss the fallacist's fallacy on this list? It's a common one made by TBMs. Just because an argument may fit the definition of one of these fallacies doesn't necessarily make it a fallacy. For example. "Joseph Smith saw God? Please, he had a crooked nose and was pudgy around the middle." That's Ad Hominem and irrelevant in supporting the claim that he didn't see God. By contrast, "Joseph was a deceiver, lazy, selfish and believed in a magical world view." That is also a Ad Hominem, but it is relevant in arguing that Joseph didn't see God (i.e., he possesses the characteristics of one who might say they saw God when in fact they did not). My favorite. You provide a big list of concerns to a TBM. They cry "Shotgun, big list, Gish Gallop!" But if each bullet is a valid concern (and they are), then it's not a big list fallacy, it's just a big list. To defeat this poor logic, simply ask, "how many is reasonable? Is eight ok, but nine becomes fallacious? Where is the line and why is at that particular spot?" In any case, crying big list when presented with a big list might be the actual fallacy. More on reddit.com

Why do people use logical fallacies?
People use logical fallacies for different reasons. In some cases, speakers and writers intentionally use logical fallacies in an effort to make their opposition look worse, to simplify an issue, or make their own position look superior. In other cases, people use them unintentionally, either because they haven’t thought their statements through or don’t understand why their arguments are logically flawed.

Fallacies - Purdue OWL® - Purdue University
In this example, the author attributes the worst possible motive to an opponent's position. In reality, however, the opposition probably has more complex and sympathetic arguments to support their point. By not addressing those arguments, the author is not treating the opposition with respect or refuting their position. Moral Equivalence: This fallacy compares minor misdeeds with major atrocities, suggesting that both are equally immoral.

Many of the "appeals to emotion rather than reason" fallacies listed below are specific types of red herrings.

4 days ago - Fallacy of many questions (complex question, fallacy of presuppositions, loaded question, plurium interrogationum) – someone asks a question that presupposes something that has not been proven or accepted by all the people involved. This fallacy is often used rhetorically so that the question limits direct replies to those that serve the questioner's agenda.

September 22, 2013 - My understanding is that this is not a fallacy because it is not a strict logical mistake, your understanding is that it is a fallacy because it is not a strict logical truth. I understand where the disagreement was stemming from now, and I think it is the fault of the illustration; it seems to take as given that we should do X, despite the fact there is no logical reason to prefer X over X-and-Y. A better example might be something like, 'String theory must be true because I have spent my whole career researching it' or 'String theory must be true because it explains such-and-such a phenomena'.

If the arguer is unable to defend this presumption, then the fallacy is committed regardless of whether the presumption is defensible. If the senator were to accept this liberal ideology, then the senator is likely to accept the arguer’s conclusion, and the argument could be considered to be effective, but still it would be fallacious—such is the difference between rhetoric and logic.

Rhetorical Fallacies – First-Year Composition
December 20, 2021 - During the 2016 Republican presidential primary, he came up with catchy little nicknames for his opponents, which he used just about every time he referred to them: “Lyin’ Ted” Cruz, “Little Marco” Rubio, “Low-Energy Jeb” Bush. If you pepper your descriptions of your opponent with tendentious, unflattering, politically charged language, you may get a rhetorical leg-up. To summarize, logical fallacies are flaws in reasoning that are widely used.
