It was originally marked 50% off but after learning it was a return with 80 hours, I was able to negotiate it down to $950 (75% off new). Thought I came out with a pretty good deal.

Store managers will just about do anything to get you to leave them alone. I talked them into selling me a 2500 dollar fridge with a small dent that wasn’t noticeable at all down to 500 bucks. They ended up delivering a brand new one by mistake to my house as well.

I have about 1200$ in Home Depot gift cards from a rewards program, and have been thinking about purchasing a riding lawn mower for my 2/3 acre lawn. Currently I think i'd like to stay around the 3.5k price point.
I see a lot of mixed reviews on pretty much all the mowers HD offers, so my question is whats your opinion on the product line at HD are any of them worth their salt? or should I spend my gift cards on something else at HD and purchase a mower from a specialty shop with more/different variety ?

Just mowing? You might put 60-70 hrs a year on it. At that rate it should last 10+ years. If you have slopes or planing on pulling stuff you might consider something a little more heavy duty.

You may have better luck at a local independent dealer, most have limited storage space and need to make room for winter items. Go Deere or Huskavana.
