Doing a lawn-care business for the second year now. I have a partner and we have about $1000 for a mower that we think is reasonable to invest in the company without it being too high risk. I've seen a few on Facebook used saying great condition for about 5, 6, 7, 800 bucks. Are these too good to be true? Should i take one of these? If so any tips? Or should I just go with a self-propelled push mower with a wider deck? Trying to find the best option here where I won't be out a bunch of money and a mower.

You certainly won't find anything built for commercial use at that price. But you may find something serviceable, even if it needs a bit of attention. I've never hired a lawn service, so take this for what it's worth (hint, it's free :) ). But thinking out loud, I do have to wonder if clients might find it odd if the professional service showed up with something like a normal-looking Craftsman rider? Presumably you need to accommodate all sorts of lawns. A rider will have limitations on how tightly it can turn, you might either miss things around tight corners, or need to go back and forth to get those areas. Maybe there is something to be said for a wider walk-behind, which can turn however you need, and get closer to edges with less risk of damaging something?
