Well you have some options and it depends on your budget. Use self leveller and get it to manufacturer tolerance for click vinyl. That way you will have a warranty on the product. This will be the most expensive way to go Don’t level, install click lvp and have the joints fail after a bit and have floor look like crap after first renter and then have to redo it. Cheap now but more expensive in ling run If you don’t want to pay for levelling and don’t mind seeing some deflection in flooring, go with a glue down lvp. They have some good 5mm thick ones that have a 20ml wear layer that are reasonably priced. Use a releasable adhesive so you can easily swap damaged planks out after each renter. Potential Issues with Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Plank
I laid 2000 sqft in my house this year. It’s great product. No need to acclimate - the issue you’re experiencing is with your subfloor. Since this stuff floats, if the subfloor is not level, it will dip into the low spots when you step on it. A small dip isn’t a big deal, but if large enough it can cause boards to pop out. April 22, 2024 - Loose Lay is a luxury vinyl format that can be installed without glue or locking system. The planks literally just lay side by side. It sounds crazy but most have a grippy rubber backing and with weight and friction, they remain in place the same as any other floor. Adhesive is required in some instances. WPC, High Density Rigid and MgO rigid core flooring are made most often in four layers.

r/Flooring on Reddit: Is rigid core vinyl plank a better choice for imperfect floors?
May 13, 2025 -
Hi all, I have a renovation I'm doing where I tore out decades of old flooring all the way down to the plank subfloor. Despite my best efforts with joist repair and putting a new layer of plywood down the floor still has it's ups and downs. I am curious if a rigid core vinyl with attached backer is the best option to deal with that? The tolerance that manufacturers list on planks is not very generous but I'm hoping with the rigid core stuff (I'm thinking lifeproof from HD) will lay down across any unlevel areas but not with an obvious telegraph. It's going to be a rental so the 22 mil wear layer will help too. Thanks.

That would be the opposite of what you want to do. If you can't be bothered to flatten it then put down 1/4 underlayment and use flexible glue down

May 20, 2018 - I did some scratch testing on samples and certain colors showed better than others. Not the scratch resistance of hardwood, but you're getting waterproof vinyl. And I bought extra so can always replace planks if needed fairly easily. (Installation is just cutting and snapping. Floating floors with no glue basically).
