The Pros and Cons of Rigid Core Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is waterproof and easy to clean, making it a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms. Vinyl flooring is also less expensive than other types of flooring, such as hardwood or stone. However, vinyl flooring can be damaged by water or sunlight, and it can fade over time. Also, rigid core vinyl flooring has a hard plastic layer that makes it more durable than traditional vinyl flooring but also more difficult to install.

Potential Issues with Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Plank
I laid 2000 sqft in my house this year. It’s great product. No need to acclimate - the issue you’re experiencing is with your subfloor. Since this stuff floats, if the subfloor is not level, it will dip into the low spots when you step on it. A small dip isn’t a big deal, but if large enough it can cause boards to pop out. Thoughts on this vinyl flooring from Floor & Decor?
Floor&Decor like HD or Lowes has good and bad product. They source from the same companies & places everyone else does. There really aren't that many places this stuff is made... The devil is in the details. See if you can find the real manufacturer name on the nucore box. If you want SPC make sure your prep is really flat and solid. If your floor is a little wonky get wpc that can flex. Get 6mm - 8mm total thickness and no less than a 12mil wear layer. I've used 12 and 20 and honestly both look the same after 2 years and I have a 40lb cattle dog. Repetition wise if you get EIR / IRE you'll have a nicer looking product but less repetition. 4 unique planks with flipped versions is usually enough if you lay it right to avoid repeat. Watch out for designs with very distinctive knots... Those can really be glaring when repeated. Backing according to everyone I've asked doesn't matter, but foam is less likely to have issues and cork is quieter. Good luck. More on reddit.com

Just installed NuCore LVP Not Thoroughly Impressed. Opinions?
I install this stuff all the time , It’s anything but Luxurious . Vinyl plank is cheaper quality than sheet vinyl. There’s no Finish on the surface to make it easier to clean. Basically it’s made for homeowners to install. But a good installation requires skills to get it under door frames stairs , etc More on reddit.com

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Potential Issues with Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Plank
November 26, 2020 -

I'm having a contractor install NuCore Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Planks throughout my house. NOTE: I'm a total newbie when it comes to home improvement.

Yesterday, they installed planks in the living room, foyer, and hall. There is a dip from the living room to the foyer; it's subtle, and perhaps not noticeable unless one is standing on the dip without shoes. Also, in the hall it feels like one section isn't laying flat on the subfloor.

I wonder if part of the issue is the tiles were installed with no time to acclimate. But the instructions on the box clearly say acclimation is not necessary.

How concerned should I be? Is this a significant issue?

Thanks!

EDIT: The potential issue is not a dip, but a slope. Being unfamiliar with home construction/improvement, I used wrong terminology but now know the difference. (Hat tip to /bandalooper.) To be even clearer, it's as if there's a subtle ramp that extends the width of the entryway.

My #1 concern, by far, is that by having this slope, it voids the warranty; the manufacturer states the floor "must be clean and level to 3/16” within a 10 ft span" and "improper installation will void warranty". Thank you all for your patience!

February 6, 2025 - My LVP is a darker color (it does show dust as will any darker floor) and has a definite “wood grain” texture that feels great on bare feet. It is also cork backed, but due to the very rigid core it is not “soft” feeling. I chose FirmFit brand for the reason stated by Ken in his reply – dimensional stability in vast temperature ranges, as well as freedom from fading in sunlight, no VOCs, antimicrobial finish, waterproof, pet and kid friendly, easy upkeep, cost and a realistic wood look.

The Rigid Plank Technology helps to eliminate ripples and waves that are often caused by uneven subfloors, and also minimizes the need for extensive prep-work and leveling compounds that other installations might require. With its waterproof core and scratch-resistant 20mil wear-layer, Rigid Max can stand up to whatever punishment your pets can dish out.

The core’s density is crucial; it not only imparts structural rigidity that resists indentation and warping but also provides a substantive feel underfoot, akin to traditional hardwood or stone flooring.
