Robert Eggers’ Favorite Movies: 10 Movies the Director Wants You to See
March 28, 2023 - Eggers’ Sight & Sound ballot illustrated his clear admiration for epic films whose directors went to unimaginable lengths to capture historically accurate images. “Fitzcarraldo” certainly fits that bill, as Werner Herzog’s attempt to film a movie about a rubber mogul transporting a steamship up a hill in the Amazon ended up being as Sisyphean as the task it was documenting.

December 31, 2024 - Honestly, these movies could be in any order and I wouldn't argue. They are all top tier and he's quickly become me favorite modern director next to del Toro. ... The Northman the Witch and the Lighthouse is my favorite book by CS Lewis. ... I'm a massive Eggers fan after I just realised those are all his movies lol Nosferatu only comes out this week in my country which is annoying asf because I've been hyped for it for months

r/roberteggers on Reddit: What is your favorite Eggers film?
January 13, 2025 -

I still don't have a definitive ranking after Nosferatu. I really enjoyed the film, and it's tied with The Lighthouse for second place, but I need to watch the extended version of Nosferatu, rewatch The Lighthouse and The Northman to have a final ranking.

  1. The Witch 2 & 3. The Lighthouse and Nosferatu

  2. The Northman

I really liked Nosferatu, but it hasn't surpassed The Witch, which for me is simply perfect. However, it's tied with The Lighthouse, which is almost on the same level as The Witch for me. I like The Northman, but I think it's the weakest in Eggers' filmography, although I need to watch it again; I've only seen it once.

Into the Abyss: Ranking the Films of Robert Eggers – Longbox of Darkness
July 1, 2025 - These moments capture Eggers at his most visually inventive, blending folklore and nightmare in ways that transcend typical genre fare. What keeps “The Northman” at number four isn’t its quality but its relative familiarity. While the other films on this list feel wholly unique, “The Northman” occasionally slips into recognizable revenge-movie territory, even as its exceptional craftsmanship elevates the material.

August 2, 2025 - 1. Nosferatu. 2024. 5 stars. For me, this is the best of Eggers’ efforts, and my favorite Dracula film to date. Though to be clear, the vampire isn’t Dracula, he’s Orlok, and he goes to Germany instead of England, and the year is 1838 instead of 1890. In other words, it’s a remake of the Murnau silent film (1922), which changed the Dracula details to avoid lawsuits.
