r/Amd on Reddit: ASUS release official BIOS for C8 Series with AGESA Combo V2 PI 1.2.0.5
December 18, 2021 -

ROG CROSSHAIR VIII BIOS 3904 / 0504 released 2021/12/15 compiled 2021/12/14

Changelog:

  1. Update AMD AM4 AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.5

  2. Improve system performance

Tested over night with variuos stress test, voltages are lower than previous version, PBO and CO are updated with a different behavior, if EDC >140A the vcore is limited, you need to use a positive offset to adjust svi2tfn values to match VID. I suggest to find again the CO values per Core and PPT-TDC-EDC values. Set PBO and CO in AMD overclock section, not the one from ASUS extreme tweak, it gives use better result.

UPDATE: due to people asking for test and etc. here it is a link of Overclock.net thread about C8 series, there are many user who can explain everything better than me about what is changed and how to OC now.

SMU Update

r/ASUS on Reddit: BIOS 4702 can kill your machine
November 7, 2023 -

Crosshair Dark Hero VIII and 5950x build running without a crash for all of 2023. After upgrading from BIOS 4602 to BIOS 4702 the BSOD's immediately started. Page fault in nonpaged area, IRQ less than equal, among 4-5 other causes. On average there's a crash every few hours.

Just some of the things tried:
Rolling back BIOS
Load optimized defaults
Fresh W10 install
remove all unnecessary devices and hardware
different cables, reseat CPU

This is classic faulty Ryzen 5000 behavior, except the thing was running well for years before this specific BIOS upgrade. I'm over Asus, all the grumblers these past years were right.

I'm not having particolar problem at the moment with the 3601 just some freeze sometime that i don't even know if they come from the mobo firmware at all.

November 6, 2020 - Can't really test a new gpu - it's a water blocked hard line build. update system seems stable for now after removing DOCP and setting it to auto Updated to BIOS 4004 (see ya later Addressable RGB) update - I ordered new RAM that was on my QVL list for the motherboard, as my current RAM (https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/bl2k32g36c16u4b) was not. RAM I ordered here - Team T-Force XTREEM ARGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model TF10D432G3600HC14CDC01 - Newegg.com That all being said I've gone through and read a few posts in the ROG forums of Dark Hero's locking up randomly like mine is.

October 10, 2023 - That's a good shout - original BIOS lit all the RGBs (mobo and others - fans/LED strips) white - updated the BIOS and they are now all rainbow. Might play about with BIOS revisions to see if I can find one that works. Anyone with the Dark Hero VIII with working Aura LED Controller able to confirm what bios they are on? @Mr Evil ... I'm on 4602 now.

According to scheme prined on board it's: DIMM_B1 DIMM_B2* DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2* When i insert my RAM in slots A2* and B2* i was surprised that in BIOS they was in slots B2* and B1 (!). I took screenshots from BIOS and filled report in ASUS support. They responded that they need to study it and it will take 3-5 days.

r/ASUSROG on Reddit: FYI Crosshair VIII Dark Hero Bios Update
March 27, 2024 -

Just in case anyone was thinking of upgrading their am4 crosshair viii dark hero board to bios 4805 that released a few days ago, it breaks the ability to control the board LEDs such that ‘off’, ‘black’, ‘dark’, etc. is bright green. Breaks any aura designs you have that include the board. A few stock ones work but almost everything resolves to static bright green.

I downgraded back to 4702 and the issue was completely resolved. Just wanted to post it because I didn’t see anyone else who struggles with obsessive compulsive tendencies post about it on any of the boards I read.

I hope this helps someone

r/ASUS on Reddit: Problems with BIOS update Rog Crosshair Hero VIII
December 8, 2023 -

After the logoFail vulnerability was disclosed I downloaded the latest BIOS (4702) for my mobo. Used the EZ Flash inside the BIOS to update, which seemed successful, and then continued with the restart when prompted. However upon restart my system seemed to hang indefinitely with the mobo error code d6 which is "no console output detected." I pressed restart after waiting quite a few minutes and my system seemed to boot fine except it completely skipped the Asus splash screen and went directly to Windows. This concerned me so I attempted to restart and enter the BIOS to no avail. Spamming the delete key constantly from the moment of restart till the Windows login screen appeared did nothing. I tried using the advanced startup options to restart directly into the UEFI but it still boots directly to Windows. I then used the mobo BIOS flash button and a thumb drive with the new BIOS on it to reinstall it, just in case the install was botched, but after the BIOS reinstalled I still have the exact same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated because my anxiety is about through the ceiling. Thanks.

Edit: Solved

Ok, this was extremely weird but just in case anyone else has this problem and nothing else works try this if you have an Nvidia card.

1 - Go to:https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/nv-uefi-update-x64/

2 - Download the file there and run it and if a firmware update is needed let it update it.

3 - Restart your PC and see if you get the normal splash screen and are able to access your BIOS
