Just in case anyone was thinking of upgrading their am4 crosshair viii dark hero board to bios 4805 that released a few days ago, it breaks the ability to control the board LEDs such that ‘off’, ‘black’, ‘dark’, etc. is bright green. Breaks any aura designs you have that include the board. A few stock ones work but almost everything resolves to static bright green.
I downgraded back to 4702 and the issue was completely resolved. Just wanted to post it because I didn’t see anyone else who struggles with obsessive compulsive tendencies post about it on any of the boards I read.

What BIOS version are you on? There's plenty of stable versions, and a few that have minor issues. It really depends on what tradeoffs you're willing to accept. The newest bios 4805 appears to have a minor bug with the RGB on the board, and also has a small performance hit due a fix for a security vulnerability. All versions after 3801 permanently change the voltage / frequency table. Even a flash back to an older version cannot undo this. It seems to me that every version after 3801 has fixed one thing whilst introducing other issues, and performance is constantly decreasing. There was a version that restored some f this performance, but I'm afraid I cannot recall which it was. There's a very comprehensive and very long thread over at overclock.net specifically for owners of the Asus X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, and there's always a lot of discussion after a new BIOS releases. Personally I'm staying on 3801 for now, but I'm on Windows 10 and do not need or use TPM. If you want to use TPM (like if you want to use Windows 11) then you'll want to use a version newer than 3801, as there is a bug in 3801 and earlier that causes stuttering with TPM enabled. Should I update the BIOS on my Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero ?
I was wondering if there is any merit to updating the bios on this board.. I don't really have many performance issues, sometimes but hard to tell if its windows or some other program causing it. October 9, 2020 - I upgraded to the newest BIOS 4805. It flashed ok and I restored all my settings. Everything works fine accept I have one LED lit up under the IO panel that should be off. I have Aura set to always off.

Hi all,
I need advice if the newest bios version for my board is stable. I m still running the BIOS that was updated after the initial botched launch for the board.
Im running a 5900x and a 4090, 2 sticks of 16 GB 3600mt cl 14 trident z neos, and I feel the BIOS is causing me some stuttering.

If you are not experiencing problems, the usual advice is to not update.
The reason is that a failed flash might brick your motherboard or at least send you down a recovery path that you are unprepared for.
Interrupting the process will cause a problem.
That is why it is advised to use a usb flash process and not the internet which can fail.
During a flash,nothing will appear to be happening. For perhaps 15 minutes.
Do not get antsy and stop the process to start over.
If you are having a problem and there is a bios update that looks like it might fix it, then by all means flash.
Ryzen is tightly tied to ram and ram compatibility issues are regularly updated.
When a new bios is in place, it will be the default bios so make any changes you need to.
On a new build, I will flash immediately to currency.
If anything fails, there is little impact.

Thanks for your replies! I've done the BIOS flashing before with a usb stick (still have it) through the BIOS.
With the laggy bios it ain't going to be very fun. Might be why when I first built this it was a frustrating experience for stability.
By laggy do you mean the mouse pointer?
I just use keyboard to navigate around...arrows up/down/left/right work perfectly and usually pretty speedy...with my Asus B550 board.
You might also reset CMOS before going into the in-BIOS update utility. It might help with everything in full defaults. And lastly simply try different USB ports.
