First off, let me start by saying this is my first post and I consider myself a newbie with computers.
(This computer is used for multi-track audio recording as opposed to gaming)
Here's the spot I'm in.
I have an Asus Rog Strix X570E Gaming with Wifi.
It's running an Ryzen 5 3600 without any noticeable problems.
I decided to buy a newer Ryzen 7 5700X.
Asus website says this will work with a Bios upgrade.
I tried to update using the latest Bios update for the wifi version of the board. (Yes, I made sure I was downloading the Wifi version).
I got an error message stating "Selected file is not a proper BIOS file".
(I have used a jump drive that is properly formatted fat 32 with the CAB file renamed)
I decided to try some earlier versions. All failed with the same message.
Here's where it gets strange (to me at least). My Bios reports that I'm running Bios version 1408.
1408 is not listed in the history of downloads for the Wifi version of this board, but it is listed for the non-wifi version of this board. I emailed Asus with the issue and the serial number of the board.
Their reply was, that specific serial# is for a non-wifi X570. And in order for my new CPU to work, I should upgrade to BIOS version 4021 (which is a Bios for the non-Wifi board).
I have sent Asus 3 pics.
One showing the retail box for the Wifi version indicating information showing the serial # I sent them.
Another showing the information regarding the Wifi spec's itself. (Which is on the backplate of my MOBO and i have used.)
and the last pic showing my BIOS post of version 1408.
They have not replied to this yet, but it appears I may have a Wifi board that was flashed by them with the wrong bios.
Sorry for the length of this post.
So I'm stuck as to what to do here. I don't think I should attempt an non-Wifi Bios update on my Wifi MOBO in case it really screws it up.
And all the Bios updates I've attempted with various version of the Wifi Bios's are all giving me the "Selected file is not a proper BIOS file".
Note. I have used various thumb drives, all formatted to Fat32, all Cab files renamed with the file renamer, all cab files at the root level on the drive with no other files on the drive.
Any help (from those who have not fallen asleep yet) is welcome.
Thanks, David.

Downloaded the newest BIOS update v5044 via the Asus website.
Formatted the thumb drive to FAT32.
Extracted the CAP file to a temp folder.
Changed the file name per the instructions.
Loaded the file onto a 4GB thumb drive.
Reboot.
Press DEL.
Navigate to tools submenu at the top of the page, click on EZ flash update utility, click to locate the CAP file to update the BIOS. However, there is no CAP file located on the thumb drive even though I can see the file within file explorer.

Updated, haven't had the chance to put on VR and see if the tracking loss associated with USB issues has gone away. YMMV. I really hope this lets me run my video card at pci-e 4.0, and eliminates some of the other USB related bugs I had!
Today Asus has released a new BIOS update. Has anyone tried it? Should we update from 2407? There is no info about the update on the website.

Really wish they'd document these new BIOS updates a little better. I'm still on 1408 because I've seen no compelling reason to update, and plenty of reasons not to.
Hi I'm new to the forum, I will soon get the ROG Strix X570-E Gaming motherboard that I will use with a Ryzen 7 5800x.
I will have to update the BIOS via the flash button on the back of the motherboard and so far ok, I know how.
2 questions:
- Can I run the BIOS update without CPU via flash button by connecting the motherboard ONLY to the 24 pin cable of the power supply? (i.e. just connect that power source to update the BIOS or do I have to connect the 4 + 4 pin CPU cable too?), this is because I would like to run the BIOS update before mounting the motherboard in the case. Thanks
- Is the penultimate version available 3001 dated 08/12/2020 ok for ryzen 5000?
You have to connect CPU power 8-pin also (at least that's what MSI wants you to do). These instructions should be on Asus' website, and video tutorials on YouTube. As far as which BIOS supports 5000-series, you just have to read the update notes for each BIOS. Or head over to Asus' sub or their forum. You would have gotten more answers on an Asus forum instead of here. Good luck.
