Hello everyone,
I've been looking everywhere to find out the generations of PCIe on my M.2 slots. From what I find there's conflicting info everywhere, even in the official ASUS page. Some places say one of the lanes is PCIe 4.0 and the other 3.0, while other sources say 2 x 4.0 while some sources also say it depends on your amd cpu gen, I have gen 3 so according to them they would both be PCIe 4.0.
Problem is I'm looking into buying a second m.2 nvme and I'm currently looking at a PCIe 4.0 one. But I just can't find for sure whether my mobo supports a second 4.0 M.2.
Does anyone here know?
Thanks everyone
Edit: this is what I find on ASUS page which I don't fully understand:

Hey everyone, I just built my first pc and already running out of space for games. My motherboard has two ssd slots. I currently have a M.2 970 500gb installed and have a M.2 970 2tb on the way. Would it be as easy as plug in play? Does it matter which slot I install them in? Sorry if this question has already been answered in this subreddit, I am a newbie.
Yep, it's exactly as easy as that. Slot the new SSD in your second m.2 slot, boot up and format the drive. Once it's formatted it's ready to be used. It's possible you may need to enable the second slot in the BIOS but I would imagine it's enabled by default, so I wouldn't expect having to do that.
Once you've fitted your new drive, you will need to go into Windows Disk Manager and format the drive. This gives it a letter and makes it visible throughout Windows.
On Premiumbuilds the XXX is listed as having 2x PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots. I'd like to purchase 2 SSDs for the slots, but I dont really know what this means. On PCparpicker, the PCIe and M2 drives are separate - do I buy a PCIe SSD, or M2? And if I get M2, what do the numbers after M2 mean ( 22110/22802242/2260)?
I am assuming that is their size, 22mm across, and the rest is length. Does this matter with this Motherboard?
Thanks in advance. Sorry - this is the second time I've ever built a PC.
In the middle of my current build and am having trouble determining which of the two m2 slots on this mobo is the pcie gen 4 slot. I have an nvme 4.0 drive and want to make sure I am taking advantage of it. I checked all the documentation and manual and it doesnt seem to specifiy which is which. Can anyone help?
