I love my new Zephyrus G14 (2022) but I can’t find any way to buy a second 240W charger for it. USB-C charging is handy but maxes out at 100W, which just isn’t enough power for long gaming sessions at high performance.
The charger that shipped with it has the following information on it:
Model: A20-240P1A Output: 20.0V 12.0A 240W
I would prefer to buy an Asus branded charger if possible. But I can’t find any of these 240W chargers on the Asus web site or the websites of any Asus retailers here in the US.
I also can’t find a list of compatible chargers that will work either, which would be nice since older Asus 240W chargers with different model numbers but similar plugs/specs look to be plentiful online. Just not this model.
If the only answer is to use a “universal charger” that would be pretty disappointing since I’ve had some very bad experiences with those in the past.
So how can I get another 240W charger?
I've read differing accounts about charing via USB-C on this model and how it could damage the battery as it's not powerful enough to charge the battery while in use.
I was wondering if a 100W USB C charger (Official charger from ASUS) would be powerful enough to power the laptop while in use for general web browsing and Office task? ASUS ROG AC100-00 100W USB Type-C Adapter/Charger Connector with Power Cord, USB PD 3.0 Technology with 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/3.25A Output for Laptops, Black - Buy ASUS ROG AC100-00 100W USB Type-C Adapter/Charger Connector with Power Cord, USB PD 3.0 Technology with 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/3.25A Output for Laptops, Black Online at Low Price in India - Amazon.in
Any 100W USB-C is powerful enough to supply the laptop with 100W while charging. The issue lies that the laptop does not have passthrough charging. So when you are charging the laptop with a 100W USB-C charger, the charger charges the battery and at the same time the battery is supplying power to the laptop. The way I do it is that when I know I will use my laptop for a short time, I just use it unplugged, turn it off and then charge it with USB-C. Alternatively if I am using it for low power stuff like e-mails and photo editing, I have no problem using a 100W USB-C charger as I am using the laptop. Yes it is not great for the battery, but honestly it would take some time until the battery is damaged enough for me to notice anything. With the upgradeability of the laptop I have no problem replacing the battery later down the line. I have had my 2022 G14 since launch (Europe) and i still get 10+ hours of battery life, and when I travel, I pretty much only use a USB-C charger.
Asus does a poor job of explaining so this topic never seems to stop.
Its how laptop is wired, usb c in this model is connected only to battery. So in gaming or heavy load scenarios u are wearing the battery excessively, constantly discharging (in a big way) and charging.
To be clear, its fine to do occasionally, just not routinely. At your desk, use the OEM power brick, save the battery (brick bypasses battery totally but can charge it too as needed) and enjoy full power to components as is intended by design.
Take usb c charger when mobile, it charges laptop just the same as OEM, just doesnt power it the same.
What should I look for in a usb c charger for 2022 G14. Does the charger adjust the voltage for the laptop battery?
I leave my G14 docked at home but when I go out I want to have a spare charger in the bag so I don't have to keep unplugging every time I take it out. I can't just get a 65w USB-C charger as I want to game so I need a second charger brick.
I checked Ebay/Amazon and there is a few Asus ones ADP-180MB F available which are pretty cheap however they are 5.5 x 2.5mm inputs and going by the Asus website the G14 needs a 6.0mm input.
Can anyone link me to a ADP-180TB H (genuine G14 charger model) or something that will still be compatible and hopefully cheaper. I'm located in Australia so ideally something from China would be suitable.
Or will the 5.5x 2.5mm input work just fine?
ADP-180MB F should work fine

according to that, its connector is 6.0/3.7mm
Also worth looking at https://www.asusparts.eu/en/Asus-0A001-00263400 the G14 shares its charger with the GU501
Edit: AD230-00E should might also work. Same voltage but higher current (higher wattage). More wattage than the G14 will ever need, but it should might work.
I bought this one before reading the comments. It does not work! Can you update the original description?
The voltage and amperage look sufficient for g14. You could probably still use it if the right adapter was used.
Hey all,
Just got my G14 (2024) - GA403UI in and setup and I'm looking to get a second charger as I use a dock at home. Can't see to find one anywhere that will with with the 2024 model.
Anyone have any luck?
Thanks in advance.
