1984 film by Robert Zemeckis
Every year on our anniversary, my wife and I watch a movie from our collection that was released in 1984. This year, with our 40th coming up in May, we are going to watch an '84 on every 27th. (Maybe more, we'll see lol.)
So, our first pick was Romancing the Stone, a very fun adventure with Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas (who produced it but hadn't intended on starring in it - Sylvester Stallone was offered it and he turned it down for Rhinestone - he regretted the decision) and Danny Devito.
This was a Blue-Ray that I had actually never opened so it was the first time we'd seen this version. Holy Hell! They should have put "Remastered" on the cover. There were a few times I had to remind myself this was from 1984 it looked so good! Mind you, I'm usually fine with DVD's; they are easier to work with - faster boot up and they don't lose your place when you stop the player. But '80s movies did have a bit of grain by today's standards (to put it mildly). This one was crystal clear except for some of the scenes with low light.
Another bit of trivia, Robert Zemeckis was fired from 20th Century BEFORE the film was released because they thought the movie was going to bomb. After it's success, they rehired him and let him go ahead on his own project...Back to the Future! (To be fair, if you look at the deleted scenes on the disc, you can get an idea why the studio was concerned. A lot of good rewriting and editing was done to get the final product we have today.)
