How do I choose the right fire pit shape?
I love the crackling sound and smell of a real wood fire. What are my options?
What are the different types of fire pits available, and which is right for me?
I’m planning on building a fire pit out of retaining wall blocks. I’ve seen it done before and I seen people with rings in the middle and without. Is it necessary?
I'm looking to build and outdoor cook/BBQ pit. I was originally thinking about digging and rock lining an imu, but am also thinking about something for direct heat cooking or charcoal generating for a classic BBQ pit.
I really like the traditional campfire rings you find at NPS campgrounds throughout the mainland; https://www.pilotrock.com/series/campfire-rings/fsw-267-campfire-ring/
but as expected the shipping makes it unreasonable ($700 for a $200 product).
Anyone have any idea where I might be able to source a large steel ring like in the link above (30-34" diameter, 7 g or thicker, rolled steel). I am metal capable (e.g. I can cut, weld, etc, so can modify something to fit if I find a suitable starting base). I'm not interested in a dryer liner, 55 g drum, $500 HD paver kit, etc......although a 30" tractor hub could work if you got a line on one!
All suggestions appreciated!
p.s. Just to be preemptive, yes, I am aware of the open burning ban, but HAR 11-60.1-52(b) does not apply to attended open burning fires for the cooking of food, which includes grilling, making swill for pigs, and using an imu or smokehouse.
mahalo!
