First time doing a round table top and I'm hesitant about the stability of the design.
Where can I buy a round piece of wood for a table top that isn't crazy expensive?
Just finished my first ever round table build out of reclaimed timber I was able to get. Feel free to ask any questions.
Best methods for attaching a round table top to a simple base WITHOUT brackets?

Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready to build my first round table top and am questioning the stability and strength. The design is pretty much a rip-off of a David Hurwitz design (picture 2) but scaled up quite a bit. The original has a 48" glass top. Mine will be 60" in diameter and 1.5" thick walnut.
The bottom base that the legs? Wings? Will be recessed into is going to be either 25" or 30". The 30" version looked a little odd modeled up, but I figured I'd cut it to that initially and then cut it down to 25" if it still didn't look good in person. But because of the way I designed the wings - I'm sticking with that nomenclature now - they'll be 5 inches at their base. Attached to a square piece central to all the wings via either dowels or, if I'm ambitious, a four-way dovetail, that means that's only 11.5" across at the bottom. And I'm planning to recess them 0.5" into the base. The plan is for them to be 1.5" thick as well.
I'm like 85%ish sure it'll be absolutely fine. But I've got a week before I actually start the project and its stability is all I've thought about. So what are your guys' thoughts?
