Be wary of washable rugs. They are often paper thin and cheaply made. Generally, most people don’t own a washing machine big enough to even fit their washable area rug. Depending on what size you want, actually washing your washable rug may not be feasible. More on reddit.com

I have a big, sometimes muddy dog, and therefore love my 8x10 rugable rug! I wash it every couple of weeks, and it makes the whole living room smell so fresh and clean when it comes out of the dryer. No issues fitting it in my top load washer. For me, it was worth the investment (especially if the alternative is to keep buying and throwing away huge rugs?!). More on reddit.com

I have 2 washable runners. I think washable rugs are only “okay” for small rugs. I’ve heard nightmares about the big ones including what you mentioned not fitting in washing machines (basically defeating the purpose) and being very difficult to lay down again. My runners fit in my washer just fine and clean well. However they are difficult to vacuum (I end up having to shake them out) and they curl on the edges because they are thin.
