Coming back to D2 after many many years just like many people, except when I was a kid- I had nothing to do with runewords, crafting, etc. After D2 Res launched, my friends and I started some characters, but they quickly fell behind due to time. I have a summon necro @ level 36 in nightmare act 1. Aiming for solo play with occasional times with friends.
What are some recommended runewords and/or crafts for a summon necro through nightmare and hell?
I'm still rocking my stealth, so I'm sure that needs an upgrade. I know there are plenty of websites and videos, but I wanted to hear from those with a firsthand experience. Let me know what you suggest!

Tal+Eth in a body armor for stealth - faster cast rate, faster run walk, poison resist Nef+Lum in a body armor for Smoke - 50 all resists, a chunk of defense, faster hit recovery Ort+Sol in a helmet - 1 to all skills, 30 light resist, 7 reduced physical damage taken Tal+Thul+Ort+Amn in a sword - 2 to all skills, life, mana, faster hit recovery, faster cast rate ^ again in a 4 socket shield for the same stats and additional fire, light, poison resist. Can only be made in monarch shield for non Paladins, which can be hard to come by in hell difficulty Ral+Tir+Tal+Sol in polearm - strong mercenary weapon with meditation aura to fix your mana There aren’t a lot of other easy runewords, besides maybe white (Dol+Io in wand- try to find one with necromancer skills you like, but this is more positioned toward a bone spellcaster necromancer). Obedience is another strong mercenary weapon that can be made for relatively cheap runes you can find yourself, but the elite, Eth, 5 socket polearm may be hard to come across (Larzuk should add 5 sockets to an ethereal thresher, but you may need to verify that by cross referencing where the polearm dropped). Make sure runewords are made from gray text color items with # of sockets = # of runes in runeword

I just got to Nightmare mode. I made Stealth and Lore in normal mode. Character is doing just fine but I'm in the mood to do some Countess runs. What are some runes/runewords to strive for for myself and my act 2 merc right now? Also, I went with Blessed Aim merc. Should I switch to something else when I hit act 2 in Nightmare? Thanks.

If you’re lucky, you can find a shrunken head with good skills and 2 sockets, and you can use that to make Splendor. The runeword is “eth lum,” and gives you an additional +1 to skills and some FCR and other stats that help you out as a caster. On the other hand, you could make Rhyme instead, Shael Eth, which gives more defensive bonuses, most notably the coveted cannot be frozen.

As the title says, I started a Necromancer the other week. Currently lvl 22. I have stealth but I’m conflicted and unsure what other runewords would be best for powerleveling a necro. Only other build I have currently is a hammrdin paladin.

White is the single most powerful item a Necro can have while leveling *if* using a bone build. You can have up to +8 to bone spear +20FCR in a single item using two low runes, and the base can be bought in act2 normal. It's just THAT powerful. The rest is standard, like Lore for helm, Stealth or Smoke, maybe using Rhyme in a good Necro head is also pretty cool.
