Then ingame through the server list or “connect ipaddresshere:28015”. Once ingame you can refer to our Console System Guide to setup your admin status. This modded version of Rust is very popular so here is how to set it up. First things first you need to do “wget https://github.com/OxideMod/Snapshots/raw/master/Oxide-Rust_Linux.zip”. Then if you haven’t already install unzip “apt-get install unzip -y” then “unzip Oxide-Rust_Linux.zip” while your in the main rust directory set by SteamCMD then accept any override prompts.

r/playrust on Reddit: Linux user here. How can I host a server locally?
June 14, 2024 -

I remember there being a way to do it in the game but I can't remember how. Steam wouldn't accept my refund so now I'm determined to make this game work. I know it's possible to play on linux, there's 1 linux friendly server but idk if it's still up.

Since I use Linux (feel free to call me a virgin in the comments)

How can I host my own server to play on by myself?

About the hardware: AFAIK server can parrallel up to 2 threads only (this is how it was before), so yes, going for higher clocks is better than going for higher thread count. I'm sure Linux has some tool to reassign cores for programs l, I'm just unaware of this. On windows I know about plenty of options - assign affinity in startup arguments, in task manager, or in tools such as Process Lasso (best option). ... Been running Rust servers for a couple of years now on both Windows and Linux.

You can look into this instead: https://linuxgsm.com/lgsm/rustserver/ It will do most of the things for you AND gives you nice config options ... Use a text editor (gedit, leafpad, whatever you have) to create a file. You could call it rust.sh (the .sh ending tells it is a shell script, but it is not mandatory, linux does not depend on name extensions) As the first line: #!/bin/bash That tells the file will be run with bash (the default shell on linux, the same one which is running inside your terminal window).

r/linux_gaming on Reddit: Rust Server for Linux Gaming - non EAC
February 4, 2023 -

Many of us struggle to find ways we can play #Rust on #Linux due to not having EAC support. Recently, I found a US based (non EAC) server with an active admin. It's brand new from what I can tell. If you use Linux, and play Rust - Check it out! It's called #Apocrypha.

It's PVP and PVE (your choice). The focus is to provide a fun, and non-toxic Rust experience with some QOL (quality of life) mods like large backpack, ./remove, a skill leveling system, and a few others.

The admin is for the most part always on, is super helpful and experienced with over 5k+ hours.

Here are a couple ways you can connect to it:

1.) press f1 to bring down your rust console, and copy and paste this

connect 89.28.237.39:28035

or you can add through steam servers

2.) Steam Method**:** Steam > View > Servers > FAVORITES tab > ADD A SERVER > 89.28.237.39:28035

  • Your Rust game must be closed when you launch - it will load straight into the server without further input.

Rust is a game that needs more attention on Linux. Hope to see you there at this brand new server available for the linux community!

Been playing on this server on/off for over a month now. Hands down better than Jim Deadlock's, and Rusticaland. I'd like to add to anyone reading this: Jim Deadlock is a blatant racist, admitting to it, and harbours racists on the server. When I approached him about it, he was toxic, and part of his response even was, and I quote, "I'll decide what's racist". They also allow cheating on the server and deny it when asked about it. But I've encountered cheaters on there plenty. I left when Jim responded to me like a jackass about racism. Rusticaland is inconsistent with their rules, where and how they are defined, and how they are enforced. I've been punished both on their Discord, and on their server, for rules that were documented nowhere. When asked about the punishment, no staff member responded after inquiring multiple times. On the Rust server, as of the time of this writing, they mute you if you swear (eg. fuck), and if you do it enough times they auto-ban you (you get warnings in chat about this). This rule is not documented on the server, or on their Discord, nowhere. And when asking mods, admins, or any staff about it, they ignore you and don't answer the question. Additionally, there are other unwritten rules that get enforced, and they even don't enforce rules that do exist. Additionally, on Rusticaland, the supposedly "Vanilla" server has Outpost and Bandit camp not properly defending players. When a "marked" player is in visual range of Outpost or Bandit (but not in the safe zone), they do not fire on that "marked" player. Yet the "Vanilla" functionality is that they should fire on those individuals. This has lead to me dying and losing bases multiple times in situations where I should not have, as the Outpost and Bandit security would have laid waste to those shooting/killing me. In contrast, I have found Apocrypha to not only be a welcoming server, the Discord aspect is quite welcoming and friendly too. It may not yet be as popular as either Jim Deadlock or Rusticaland, but I actually enjoy Apocrypha. Mora the admin is a really nice person, legit cares, and is out to have fun. Kushy is cool too. And other people I've encountered are great too. I highly recommend this server. No, I am not paid to say this. I am just fed up with the bs from Jim Deadlock and Rusticaland. I am very glad that Kushy and Mora are making Apocrypha happen. Here's hoping more join up.

It can be used to install servers for various games, include Rust, which we'll be talking about here. Create a new folder in your C:/. For simplicity, just call it steamcmd. We'll be using this moving forward. Download SteamCMD for Windows and extract the contents of the zip file into the steamcmd folder. To install for linux, first you need to create a new user account.

They dropped Linux support for the client a while back, which I was VERY disappointed to find out when I recently built a SteamOS Holo PC and Rust wouldn't connect me to my servers. Turns out it was an EAC issue as it's now all Windows emulated under Steam OS and not native Linux.
