r/Amd on Reddit: Ryzen 3700x clock speeds?
October 17, 2019 -

Recently got a 3700x and I've been playing around with the settings.

I tried manual OC but it wasn't worth it for me so I just went with Precision Boost Overdrive and my CPU is just hitting 4.1-4.2 GHz under load. I have the same result with just the default (load optimized defaults) settings. The temps seem to be norma as when I was stress-testing it with Ryzen Master it hit 67 °C (I have a Coolermaster 120 Liquid Lite).

Additionally, I have a 2070 Super OC to 1995MHZ and 7900 on memory and 32 GB of Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 (16-18-18-36 stock, can OC to 3600 16-17-16-36, tried both), mobo is Aorus Elite x570 with the latest BIOS.

Have got the latest Win10 and AMD drivers so I was wondering, are those low clocks normal or did I just get really unlucky with my chip?

I anyone would know how to fix it or get some better performance out of it I would really abranchiate it!

Update:

For some reason, PBO was limiting my frequencies to like 4.1 or 4.2 at times but cracking the voltage way up, causing my temps to reach 75 degrees. So I disabled it and tried manual OC. Rn running 4.3 stable on all cores with 1.328V I think and RAM is at 3600 16-17-18-18-36 1.37V

Cinabench score is now 5050 or higher consistently. And the themps are around 70 now not 75 so idk what was causing PBO to do that.

Don't know if others have experienced that with PBO or I'm just very unlucky.

The boost is not all core. https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-3700x Max Boost Clock: Up to 4.4GHz Max boost for AMD Ryzen processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates. Obviously, it won't boost to that clock speed under heavy work load but it doesn't have to be idle so run a lightly threaded work load; a quick-scan in Defender works pretty well. Since it boosts pretty quickly a faster than normal polling period also helps, I use a polling period of about 500 mSec's in HWInfo. Then look at the multiplier graph for each of the cores and watch which ones boost to 4400. This assumes you've installed the AMD chipset drivers and are running the Ryzen Balanced power plan.
