I'm currently using an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X with an RTX 4070ti for gaming, but I feel like my CPU is bottlenecking my setup. I've read that the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is top-tier for gaming. Would upgrading to this CPU give a noticeable FPS boost in new, demanding games?
Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
Hello here, I keep reading that this CPU might be the best CPU ever when it comes to GAMING, from the previous year, but it confuses me a bit.
By "best CPU for gaming", does that mean this CPU only shines for this specific use and will not be that impressive for anything else ? Like, for instance, streaming and gaming at the same time, having several softwares opened like a browser, several tabs in the browser, discord etc. and so on ?
It confuses me because sometimes people are comparing a Ryzen 7 7700x and the 7800x3D, and while the former seems to be also very good, most people tend to answer "IF for gaming, 7800x3D hands down". But by answering that way, does that mean the CPU is aimed for a user who's gonna only turn on his computer to launch a video game and nothing else ?
I'm planning to make a new configuration since my current one is kinda old now (from 2017 : GTX 1070, i5 7600k, 16gb DDR4), and I would like to make it good for 1440p gaming but also for the general uses listed above... And the more I try to figure out which CPU might be good for the years to come, since I don't want to upgrade every generations, things have been a bit complicated for me especially with this Ryzen 7800x3D.
And by 1440p, I mean a 1440p with 165 hz (180 oc), and for the games it will mostly be fighting games (Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6), and maybe some RPG like Baldur's Gate 3, but maybe some others depending on what will be next !
What's appealing to me with the 7800x3D, beside its raw performances, is also its power usage, which seems to be far lower than its Intel counterparts and even from most of the others ryzen 7 CPUs.
But for a user like me who likes to keep his configuration as long as possible, is this 7800x3D a good pick over a 7700x, or even over those Intel 13th/14th ones although their socket is at the end of its life?

I have seen that a higher cache, such as x3d, is better for games, especially for Rust and Escape from Tarkov, which are my main games. I have also read a blog from UserBenchmark that marks the glorification of this processor as a marketing campaign:

I just want a future-proof CPU that will run these two games at the absolute maximum. I'm also an FPS-over-graphics type of guy, so I'm willing to run at minimal settings at a maximum 2K resolution for highest FPS. I will be glad if someone with a higher understanding of this topic responds.
Is the intel version of the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D even worth looking at? Especially because it looks like ill be going with a 7900 xtx i feel like the boost you get when you use the GPU and CPU together is worth it. or could I go with like am4 and save a bit of money? or is the future proofing worth the premium
New to the idea of building a PC, and really want to get the most out of it and future proof, but a lot of this information still melts my brain tbh!
All the discourse round here points to the 7800X3D being the top dog for a new gaming build. However, the PC specs for Dragon Age: Veilguard have been released, and for ultra pre-set they're recommending a Ryzen 9 7950X (16 cores / 24 threads). Would a 7800X3D still outperform the 7950X in this instance where they're specifying a CPU with a higher core/thread count?
I saw a YouTube video about the 7800x3d skyrocketing in price, but everyone in the comments was saying it was the best cpu for gaming out there, even better than a ryzen 9 7950x3d, could someone explain if it's just insane value or if it's actually better?
I currently have an i7 7700k and a GTX 1070 so I was planning on building a new PC. I’m seeing a lot of praise for the 7800X3D but I’m unclear about what makes the processor so good.
Looking at the comparison between my current CPU, the 7800X3D, and the other Intel CPUs I was considering shows a massive CPU Mark difference.
For my use case, it was mostly just gaming. However, I got back into Escape from Tarkov after a couple years break(what impeccable timing) and I know it is a pretty CPU intensive game.
I also will be playing VR games through Steam, and hopefully using SteamLink or QuestLink to wirelessly play on my Quest 3.
Can anyone help explain some of this like I’m 34 and not entirely knowledgeable on processor specs?

Ive read several articles and posts raving about the 78003DX and wanted to see if anyone had a differing opinion?
The current price is ~519€ and has increased compared to yesterday. I'm thinking about buying the CPU now, but the CPU could become significantly cheaper in the summer despite production being discontinued.

I do not know what voodoo AMD did with this chip but they need to go back and look at their other chips and make the change.
First this chip is designed to be and delivered on being a gaming BEAST. It punches way above it's weight class. I know it is not as powerful as other offerings for productivity work loads, but seriously it was not designed to be. This is a gaming chip first and foremost. Seeing benchmarks for work loads to me seem silly. It is made for gaming, benchmarking workloads for this chip is like seeing how a sports car does for towing.
Second, the chip is a power efficiency MONSTER. Even under stress testing, at stock settings I am pulling under 70 watts. That is INSANE, this much performance and it sips power. I see people talking about under-volting, WHY BOTHER?
Third, cooling is dirt simple. You do not need an AIO or LARGE air cooler to keep this chip under control. Even under heavy work load (not it's typical use) a cooler like an L12S (which Noctua claimed cannot do this) is able to keep full speed and temps under throttle level. You move to the intended use of the chip, gaming and cooling is super simple.
The 5800X3D might have been a major jump for designing a chip specifically for gaming but it is still power hungry and a bear to cool. The 7800X3D is nothing short of amazing on every level.
We see all the "high end chips" needing more power, more cooling and yet here is a chip priced in the mid range that is running as fast or FASTER while sipping juice and running cooler than a Jamaican Bobsled Team.

I am building my first gaming pc and I had the 7800x3d on my list as parts to buy, but I just saw the 7700x go on sale for $259. Should I grab that and save myself a couple hundred dollars and then upgrade later down the road? Is the 7800x3d really that much better and worth the additional cost? Any advice is appreciated!
Laugh at me if you like but I've been pretty much satisfied with my Ryzen 5 3600 for a long while now, although I know it's kinda slow and I've been meaning to upgrade for a while (especially coz I have a fuckin 4080 super paired with it). But now I need to add an extra ssd and my mobo doesn't support an extra port, so I was thinking of upgrading my board, but then I thought, why stick to am4? Why not make a decent upgrade while I'm on it? AM5? Now I have to buy ddr5 and a processor too. Lol. So It was a spiral. I'm torn between 7800x3d (getting a really good deal rn - 300$ - which is a phenomenal deal for where I live, they usually sell for 450+). or go spend a ton on Ryzen 9 9950x3d.
I know it's an older cpu and I'm going to experience huge gains either way when I'm coming from R5 3600 but still would love some knowledgeable opinions and suggestions from you all. Here are some notions I have, please correct me if I'm wrong or if you think there's more to the story.
- Since I will have an am5 board, it's futureproof for far off, and I can be sure the next gen of Ryzen cpus will be compatible with it so I can just sell my 7800x3d and upgrade if I feel like it.
- There's really not as much to Ram, but I read somewhere that 7800x3d doesnt do well with 2+ ram sticks, so I feel like I should go for 2 32 gb sticks. I'm thinking of a cheap Corsair vengeance. Am I wrong?
- I need to invest on a decent cpu cooler, Air coolers are fine and I don't really need a liquid cooler because 7800x3d isn't going to give me as much heat. But the question is, if a decent air cooler would be enough for future upgrades or should I just go all in and buy some fancy liquid cooler rn?
Another conflict in my mind is if I should keep my current cabinet that only supports m-ATX and buy an m-ATX am5 mobo or are ATX mobos just downright superior and I should invest in a good ATX mobo and buy a new case to go with it?

Oh damn, I forgot to mention use cases. I use it for gaming now and then. Programming. Video editing once or twice a month. And lots and lots of chrome tabs for content consumption and research.

Hello!!! I am in the processing of building a new PC and I am trying to figure out what CPU to get. I’d love the 7800X3D but with all the issues I’ve seen it has me worried so should I just go for it or play it safe and get an Intel I7 13700k?

I dont really feel like it's crucial to upgrade but i'm kinda lacking some performance to get all the frames to my 240hz monitor.
But i can put live it if it's worth waiting for the next gen Ryzen. What i read it's coming Q2 2024.

What I understand:
The Ryzen 7800X3D is an excellent value for gaming, one of the best, but it significantly optimized towards games versus productivity tasks.
It's also at the top of my budget, and while gaming is what's primarily driving my configuration choices, I also will use this computer for some productivity tasks including CAD and the like. Also, I often play things like KSP and the like that aren't conventional GPU-focused AAA games.
It looks like the Ryzen 7700X benches somewhat similarly but is more middle-of-the-road, and less expensive to boot, and the Ryzen 7600X seems to be a solid option at a lower price and I like saving money (and I'm actually fairly happy on a somewhat lower end CPU right now, which is going to become a hand-me-down).
What I'm not sure about:
How actually bad is the 7800X3D for productivity tasks when I care about responsiveness but am usually not counting the seconds for my stuff to render? Are the 7700X or 7600X actually good options, or am I seriously leaving behind performance? Is the 7800X3D actually a slug with productivity, or just weaker than other options? Are the benchmarks comparing the 7700X fairly closely with it wactually reflecting reality?

On average of 19 launch reviews, the 7950X3D is still ahead of the 7800X3D by +1.2%. The rating of the reviews is by no means uniform, 7 see the 7800X3D in front, 11 the 7950X3D. Compared to the 13900K, the 7800X3D achieves an average lead of +3.0%. The verdict is not uniform here either: 6 reviews still favor the Intel processor, the other 13 then the AMD processor.
Generally, the 13900K, 13900KS, 7800X3D and 7950X3D are in the same performance sphere. The performance difference (from the smallest to the biggest model within this CPU group) is just 4%. The Ryzen 9 7900X3D, on the other hand, does not belong to this top group; it lags behind a bit more.

Thus, the performance gain due to the extra 3D V-cache turns out to be the lowest on the Ryzen 9 7900X3D - despite the highest (nominal) additional price precisely on this model.

The application benchmarks from PCGH and Tom's are clearly multithread-heavy, only TPU has a complete benchmark set with many office and other benchmarks as well. The 7800X3D loses a bit more application performance than the 7950X3D - and is thus primary suitable as gaming CPU due to the higher price (compared to the 7700X).

The 13900K still needs an average of 143 watts under gaming, while the 7800X3D does the same job (with minimally better performance) on an average of only 56 watts. This is far above twice the energy efficiency in this particular comparison (check as well the graph).

Hey guys, I will be building my first gaming PC ever and I need your opinions on which CPU to get. I’m gonna list my PC spec below just in case it will help you guys, help me decide which one is better.
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7 GPU: RTX 5070 Ti (Yet to purchase) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 6000MHZ CL30 (16GBx2) SSD: Acer Predator GM7 2TB AIO: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 240 A-RGB PSU: Montech Century II 1050W Case: Fractal North Design Monitor: LG 27GR95QE-B 27” 240Hz W-OLED
So everything here is confirmed (bought) except for the CPU and GPU. Before you guys say anything, I know the RX 9070 XT would be the better option, but I do professional work as well. That’s why NVIDIA is better for me.
So in Germany, there’s about 100€ difference between the two CPUs. 7800X3D (360€) vs 9800X3D (460€).Price is not a matter here, but Price-to-Performance ratio is important for me. I’m excited to read your threads about it!
