... is because of its single-core performance. I am not a creator and I don't render stuff, all I do use the machine with this CPU is for gaming. This note is for anyone in the analysis paralysis phase deciding to max out their current AM4 X570 boards. I would go for 5900x not because of the cheaper price but also because of the single-core performance.
Last week I maxed out my old Asus Tuf X570 board, always wanted to max it out, and glad I am done with it :)
Update:
Thank you, everyone, for your comments! I just made this post to share my experience and I am taken aback by all the people in the community coming out of nowhere berating my choice one after another. I expected this to be read by people online but didn't expect the hate at all. Not sure what wrong did I do to go with the choice of my CPU.
Also, not sure if it's a mere coincidence but someone on youtube who made a posting about 5900x vs 5950x just last night showed up on my feed. Just sharing it here as my rationale to go with 5900x aligns with this YouTuber's viewpoint.

Overall 5900x is better than 5950x per GamerNexus in single-core performance https://youtu.be/utWSSlyabjc
5900x vs 5800X3D
Game Test 5900x vs 5800X3D
5800X3D running hotter (75c) than 5900x (59c) and no difference in FPS at all (1 or 2 FPS fluctuation between them)

Conclusion: If you are buying for gaming only, I would go with 5900x. For other rendering purposes, 5950x. I wouldn't recommend 5800X3D as it's just 10 bucks cheaper than 5900x at the moment and doesn't have as many cores as 5900X.
Question - Difference of 5950X and 5900X, architecturally speaking? | Tom's Hardware Forum
AMD Ryzen 9 5900x vs 5950x?
having multiple tabs open doesnt require CPU cores but ram. Do a little test - open a load of tabs and check the CPU activity, itll hardly matter but a lot of ram will be eaten up. For the money you spend on 5950X you could buy 5600x and then few years down the line buy a new gen 5600x equivalent with all the new tech improvement that will give better computing experience.

Is it worth upgrading from a ryzen 9 5900x to a 9 5950x in 2024?

I will use this for gaming which means I could go to even 5600x, but I also want this for productivity tasks such as multiple tabs and applications open for research and something that will last me 6-8 years.
I figured later gens will utilize more cores in the future and I don’t want to have to upgrade my cpu or gpu for many years.
What would y’all suggest? Thanks

Get a 5800X, a lot cheaper than 5900 or 5950X and not much of a difference in performance.
What "productivity" are you doing that you'd need a top of the line CPU for.
