EDIT thank you all for the valuable feedback! I decided to cancel my order and will get a 5700x3d instead. To be completely honest with you, I didn’t realize the 5700x3d was only 5-6% difference compared to the 5800x3d. That’s probably a negligible difference between the 2 and I think that upgrade will help last until AM6 platform comes around.

Guys just need your honest opinion on this. I’m worried I’m going to regret my purchase but maybe my fears are irrational?
I bought a AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT which from everything I read was a slightly underclocked 5950x. Paid $324+tax for it on Amazon.
I desperately wanted a 5800x3d but they are constantly out of stock. Micro center does not have any available, Best Buy also doesn’t have any. Amazon is always out of stock too.
So i decided to go with the 5900XT based on cost and how it was similar to the 5950x.
The whole purpose of me doing this is for a few reasons.
-
Upgrade from a 5600x.
-
Future proof and not have to upgrade again til AM6 platform comes out.
-
Maybe build a media pc with the 5600x since it still has life in it.
-
Also planning to retire an older Intel PC and hand that off to my parents to use. They are still using an old, old build that I made years ago with an AM3+ Bulldozer (lol at that dumpster fire era).
So yeah just let me know if I made a mistake? I’m planning on using the 5900xt for mainly gaming but I also do some occasional gaming video recording and editing for montages/clips for YouTube. (I do that for fun, not a daily job).
