So I'm upgrading my phone after 5 years from the s7 edge and I'm unsure about what version of the s21 I should buy. I do like taking good pictures but I'm not a professional so unsure if the price bump between the s21 and s21 ultra is worth it. It's not that i cant afford it but more of whether its worth it. Is there a big difference, both in picture quality as well as overall performance, between the s21 and the s21 ultra? What about the s21+..Is it a good compromise between the two? What about the battery life? Is there a big difference?
Also I do plan to use the next phone I buy for quite a while so that's also something I'd want to factor into all this. So yea hoping to get some input from you'll as to what you'll think I should go for.
Update:Thanks for all the responses, I feel a bit guilty but decided to go with the majority for the S21 Ultra π . Was an offer that was ending today so yea decided it's now or never. Some of you raised some fine points for the plus and wouldve gone for that if it wasnt for the offer. Really appreciate everyone's input! Hopefully I don't regret it π ..
I have an S9+ and she's starting to show her age with lag, short battery, and freezes.
I am planning to upgrade and hope that this phone will last at least 2.5 years. (My budget is $400 Canadian so I can't get an S22 Ultra or newer)
My question is, would I get more use/time out of a regular S22 or an S21 Ultra??

I have an old S9+ which I love but is getting a bit dated with no more security updates. I have the opportunity to get either an S21+ for 564$ CAD or S21 Ultra for $720 CAD brand new. Both prices are excellent (in Canada) considering the current S22 line prices. These are Snapdragon versions.
Now, I know it will sound obvious to some, but should I spend the extra $160 for the Ultra? My only worry is that the Ultra will be too chunky and heavy since I do put cases on my phones. But money-wise, the Ultra seems like a much better deal.
I also see a lot of people complaining about problems with their new phones. I know people that are having a problem are most likely to be posting but I'm a bit worried seeing that.
1- What would you get? S21+ or S21 Ultra? 2- those with the snapdragon version, are you happy?
Thanks!
Loving my S21+
Was looking at something and saw the S21 ultra. I compared it to the S21+ and they look the same. in fact there are some parts where the S21+ beats the ultra. is there any point of upgrading because its an ULTRA or I should be fine with my plus model ?
Thanks
Iβm on a crossroad between the two models. Moving from S8+ for almost 5 yrs and been using iPhone12 Pro Max for few months, I had enough with curved screen and multiple series of the cracked tempered glass. Thatβs the only thing holding me back from Ultra, and frankly I like how S21+ feels on the hand.
However I worry of buyer remorse on the extra RAM. Iβm planning to use the phone for 4 yrs. I took photos and want to do some editing e.g. with Lightroom mobile. Will the 4GB RAM and extra 200mAh makes a lot more difference?
How is your experience so far?
PS: Iβm not considering S22.
Finally getting an eligible S9 to trade in with T-Mobile to get the S21 βfreeβ or the S21 Plus with a small monthly phone payment. The real question is, is the S21 Plus worth the extra $200 price tag? Correct me if Iβm wrong, but we have an Apple scenario here. Just like the XS Max was just bigger in size and battery, so is the S21 Plus vs the S21? βAm I missing anything?
Unless you want better battery Iβd get the regular s21. 4,000mah should be enough for a 1080p display that varies in refresh rate.
The S21+ also has a glass back vs plastic on the S21, but yeah beyond that there's no difference and definitely not worth $200 more unless you want the bigger screen/battery size.
Hey guys, needing to know which you would recommend. I have had a S10 Plus for the past 2 years, and it's time for me to upgrade. I've enjoyed the phone a lot, but you could say it hasn't enjoyed its time with me. The back cracked after about a year (it was in an Otterbox Comuter) and by now, the back and camera bar are a shattered mess. I want to stick with a flagship Samsung. Needs to be brand new. I can spend up to $400 US. Planning to keep it for 2 years.
I really like that the S20 Ultra has an SD card slot, that way if I accidentally damage it to the point of being unrepearable, likely my pictures wouldn't be lost.
I like that the S21 Plus will receive updates for as long as I have the phone (to my understanding).
I like that the S20 Ultra has better cameras.
I feel like it comes down to 2 things, what features will I miss out on from no updates with the Ultra, and which has better battery life? Is either substantially tougher? What would you guys recommend? Thanks in advance!
Has there been any reviews on differences between the S21 and S21 Plus? I mean differences in camera, performance etc. Or its just the same (as i expect)
I dont mind the size or plastic back tbh. I do like the idea of a bigger battery on the Plus though.
I wanna know which one to get. Help please
Honestly no. Unless ur going for the s21 ultra, it isn't worth it. I know people have talked about the new processor, camera etc. but they have removed too many features for my taste. The QHD display is a good option whenever I watch movies so its nice to be able to switch back and forth. The SD card removal is disappointing for me.
Moreover, the camera unit is mostly the same from the s20 with software improvements mostly. The only upgrade I find is the LTPO display but even without that the battery life is good enough for me on my s20+. So unless you're getting the 21 ultra, honestly it's not worth it.
Edit: apologies i read it as difference between s21 and s20 π€£π€£π€£
Yes if you want a big phone and don't care about the zoom. Also the battery is pretty good.
Hello, I canβt decide which one should I get. What are the advantages and disadvantages of them? Do they both function the same or there is a difference between them? P.S: I donβt use the camera a lot.
Appreciate the help Thank you
For me, size matters. π The plus was a little too large and the Ultra was way bigger than I wanted. The regular S21 was the perfect size, no glass back, and a flat display.
-
LTPO (similar to note ultra) and the adaptive refresh rate can lower to 10hz (48 on s21/s21+)
-
Extra camera
-
S-pen support
-
WQHD Resolution
-
More ram (12gb vs 8 on s21/s21+)
-
wifi 6e
-
front cam was 40mp
In the end I've choosen the s21+ since it gave you the best balance on s21 series. I came from s9+ and s20 FE. Definitely the screen is not noticeable which I came from s9+
Also there was huge price difference, $200 is not worth more in my end even on sale
Right now the s21 ultra is $999 ans s21+ $799

I'm in the market to upgrade from the S21+ to either of the 2 phones listed above and would like the opinion/advice of the subreddit on which I should buy. I had plan on the s22u but I'm hearing of overheating and battery issues and it's kinda turning me off of it. A little bit of info to consider is that I'm in the U.S so I'll he getting the snap dragon version , and I'm a heavy user mostly on apps such youtube and other video streaming apps. Thanks in advance
Iβm looking at moving to android from an iPhone X but I need to know which one is better? Do you think the S21+ is better than the S21?
I have an old S9+ which I love but is getting a bit dated with no more security updates. I have the opportunity to get either an S21+ for 564$ CAD or S21 Ultra for $720 CAD brand new. Both prices are excellent (in Canada) considering the current S22 line prices.

After the announcement and doing some research, Samsung really seems to have stepped up their game this year.
That camera set up is really tempting!
Not too fussed with One UI Vs stock (it's been cleaned up ALOT!) And regarding updates, stock android does seem to be playing catch up with slot of OEMS so not toooo concerned with missing out on the latest and greatest from Android straight away.
I'm on a pixel 5, but have been itching to jump to either OnePlus or Samsung lately and think this might be the one...
Anyone else having these dark thoughts? Haha
** UPDATE 2!**
So I've had the device for a day now and while I'm still getting to know the software, I'm impressed.
It's clean, fluid, majority of bloat can be removed and being able to have Google discover on the side and make default Google home etc was a nice surprise!
The screen is gorgeous and the sound is impressive (makes you really question what Google is doing with speakers after being so far ahead in the game with front firing so long ago!)
The only downside, the camera. It is an impressive shooter however nowhere near Pixel level. It's crazy to think of the impressive hardware in this phone being held back by Sammy's software.
Pictures are frequently over exposed, whites are boosted to unrealistic leaves, noise reduction makes everything seem smooth and this thing really doesn't like animals (I have a cat who is my favourite model and the difference in quality between this and any Pixel is crazy!)
One area it does excel (not including zoom) is night sight. I have managed to get much better night shots with this Vs the Pixel 5.
I know we moan about Google not using the latest lenses or upgrading the MP count, however I think they have good reasons to stay with what they have and this further proves this to me.
Managed to get gcam on this and has improved camera greatly and looking forward to future updates to continue to improve image quality, however right now, Pixel is still king.
UPDATE
I've pre-ordered the Ultra Phantom Black π
The way I see it, I have 14 days from receiving it to decide to keep it.
Even after that I am fortunate enough to be able to update phones whenever, so if Google by some miracle decides to drop the ultimate flagship this year, I'll jump straight back!
Android is Android. And though Samsung is famous for throwing so much crap on top, One UI 3.1 is the cleanest and most user friend UI to date and does address some issues I personally find with stock android.
I'll probably keep hold of the Pixel 5 too (or at least hand it down to someone in the family so it's nearby Haha)
All in all, after owning every Nexus and Pixel that's came out, I'm looking forward to having something new!
Thanks!
Just left the Samsung big expensive redundant sw world and am not anxious to return any time soon.
I would be sorely tempted if I hadn't switched from a Samsung Galaxy S model (forget which version it was; I had had several Galaxy S-somethings) that I really loved to a Pixel a few years ago only so that I would have the same model as my geekiest child, who lives a distance away but helps me with my phone questions. I decided to switch to the same model phone he had so that it would be a lot easier for him to help me from a distance when I couldn't figure out something with my phone.
If it weren't for that, I'd switch back in a heartbeat.
I have an s22 plus 256 gb. I am considering getting the s21 ultra 128. Any thoughts?
I just posted here the other day asking which Samsung Galaxy i should get because i plan to buy refurbished, & most of the people who commented said one of S21s.
I made up my mind, & originally decided on S21 Ultra right away. I still would like that, but it seems i'm barely short of what I need to get one refurbished in good/great condition. I don't have a job, but I saved up $317 and lowest price I've seen for S21 Ultra is $355. Should I settle on the S21+, or is it worth it to scrounge up and count how much I have in my change jar to see if I can make it to $355? π
I don't have time to think on it for a min or wait to see if price goes down, as i currently use a pos LG phoenix 5 and need a better phone pronto π¬
