Permalink I can't really add to the list, but the number one would be When I Wanted You...the anger, frustration, hurt expressed in that song...every time I fight with my husband, that song goes on. Another one, I think, would be "Where Do I Go From Here" from Even Now.

October 20, 2023 - A noticeably tougher and darker song than Manilow is usually associated with, She’s a Star offers a grim depiction of celebrity, allegedly inspired by his former boss Bette Midler. Manilow reworked it for his surprisingly adventurous 2011 concept album 15 Minutes, also home to a track that features him rapping. The standard line about Barry Manilow – that he deals solely in unctuous schmaltz – is wide of the mark, as demonstrated by Looks Like We Made It.

if you didn't realize the song is about a woman (Lola) who was sexually harassed (by Rico) and when her boyfriend (tony) tried to help her he got shot and killed .
then the song cuts to 30 years later telling us that Lola couldn't let go of the past and now she is an alcoholic without tony in her life .
the song is about sexual harassment ,alcoholism and gun violence
SO, my question is why dose nobody notice ?

Who says nobody notices? There are a bunch of articles online and other Reddit posts pointing out the same thing. It's one of my karaoke go-to's and it's pretty obvious if you pay attention to the lyrics. I think a lot of people enjoy and are used to sadness in pop music. There are a lot of pop songs with sad or disturbing lyrics. True crime podcasts are immensely popular. Many normal people are fascinated by the lurid, violent, or criminal.

Just like "Pumped-Up Kicks" and "I Don't Like Mondays", the song sounds happy and most people don't pay attention to the lyrics other the refrain. For those that do, it only becomes more enjoyable as a little inside joke or factoid to inform others of. Kind of like how you felt the need to do so here.
