Some browsers, including first party once, occasionally include some kind of tracker blocking that might be turned on by default. It's minimal, but something. Or you might be connecting to a router that has ad/tracker blocking installed. Or, based on the fact that it's complaining despite having little right to complain, the site just sucks. Which is more likely than not. You might have better luck asking on an Apple or browser specific subreddit about the site, though. More on reddit.com

So I visited a website on my phone that asked me to disable my ad blocker, etc, but I do NOT have an ad blocker installed on my phone, because I'm getting absolutely swamped by ads on just about every other website. Any suggestions?

ironically, installing a quality adblocker will probably help. they usually remove the "disable adblocker" prompt too. i recommend Ublock Origin.
