Graco 4Ever DLX
All convertible car seats have similarities, like a plastic shell, impact foam, comfort padding, and a fabric cover. However, some provide thicker padding, softer or more durable fabric, or foam that doesn't off-gas. Because this is somewhat subjective, we compare the seats side-by-side and rank them. Toddler Car Seat Debate: when to turn forward-facing? | BobIsTheOilGuy
Many states (including mine) require toddlers to be in a rear-facing car seat until the age of 2. However, the recent trend is to keep toddlers in a rear-facing car seat until they "max out" the height/weight limit of their seat, which can be as high as 50 lbs in newer models. As a result... We have the Graco 4ever DLX and it works well, but borrowed a Nuna Rava recently while out of town and boy did it blow me away. It was so easy to get in and secure properly the first time without any of fuss. It’s “simply secure” installation system is just that and quite impressive. It’s pricy, but would buy if I could go back. The Graco 4ever DLX can be a hassle to get tight so it doesn’t slide side to side so not the best for changing cars. Once in, it works very well though and if just leaving in one car, would recommend. More on reddit.com

In my experience, most modern infant seats are safe when installed correctly. Things that made the biggest difference for me were how easy the harness is to adjust as the baby grows and how heavy the seat feels once there’s actually a baby in it. Some seats are technically great but become a pain once you’re carrying a diaper bag and a sleeping newborn. Comfort wise, babies tend to do better in seats with decent padding and a newborn insert ( like here ) that actually supports their head instead of letting it flop forward. A canopy that actually blocks light and a handle that feels natural in your hand sound small, but you notice them fast when you’re using the seat multiple times a day. Also whatever seat you choose, take 10 minutes to practice tightening and loosening the harness before the baby arrives. It makes those first exhausted weeks way less stressful, and you’re less likely to leave it looser than you meant to More on reddit.com

My 17 month old needs a new car seat and I am completely overwhelmed! Any recs of ones you love? I have sedan and I want it to be safe/be able to stay rear facing as long as possible that's my only preferences. There is so much on the market I get bogged down with all the choices and the reviews. Any recs would be amazing and help us so much!
Edit: thank you for all the answers wow! 3 months of using the graco extend to fit and love it! It fits fine in my sedan. I will note I only have 1 kiddo in the back seat so I don't notice/ mind it's size. It's super comfy for LO and aligns with my desire to keep rear facing as long as possible. Noting this in case anyone comes across this post also overwhelmed lol

Evenflo revolve 360 (I have the Slim version). Should grow with my kid for a long time and omg the ability to turn it to face me to get her in and out of our small vehicles is chef's kiss. We did a 12 hour road trip with her at 14mo in it and she was as comfortable as one can be during a 12hr trip. Whichever you choose, if you can afford it, splurge on something that rotates.

December 17, 2025 - Our comments: The Scenera NEXT is a good budget-friendly seat for babies and small toddlers. Just don’t expect it to fit many kids over age 3. Also nice for traveling since it’s so lightweight. If installing with LATCH isn’t an option then you must read your vehicle owner’s manual to determine how your seatbelts lock in order to properly install this carseat with seatbelt.

The 5 Best Convertible and All-in-One Car Seats of 2026 | Reviews by Wirecutter
November 24, 2025 - The Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat has a lot going for it, including pretty easy installation and thoughtful features, and it’s also a great value. But, most importantly, this seat excels at keeping your kid comfortable while they ride rear-facing — the safest position for a young child — for longer. Many large toddlers and preschoolers struggle to stay rear-facing because at a certain point they start to feel squashed.
