I was scouring through my local fabric shop's instaram when I found this beautiful sage green organdi! It was absolutely beautiful and I couldn't help myself to make a simple dress with it. The pattern is self developed. I use Helen Joseph Armstrong pattern book for most of pattern drafting. There's a semi bustier on the bodice inside with sweetheart neckline with center front and princess lines seam, made of duchess satin in sage green color. I wanna give some structure to the dress so I use bonings on the princess lines, center front, and side seams. The skirt is made of 1 layer of duchess satin (half circular skirt), 1 layer of organdi (full circular skirt), and another layer of organdi (gathered half circular skirt). Originally for the bodice, I wanted to do just one layer of organdi on top of the base duchess satin, but I found that it was too sheer and I could barely see the beautiful flower motifs of the organdi. So I decided to use 2 layers instead of one. My challenge with this dress is on the collar. Because it's made of organdi, on bias, it ended up wavy like in the picture. I redid it three times with the same result. If anyone have any advice on how to achieve a smooth looking collar stand in sheer fabric, please tell me! 😭😭 After the whole dress was done, I felt that it lacked a bit of sparkle. So I decided to do some beading embroidery. Ngl, at first, halfway through it, I thought it was so bad. The gold bamboo beads were too gold, the turqoise flowers were too contrast with the soft sage color. Halfway done, before the pearls and the scrunched organdi flower, I really thought I messed up. But I just hung on to this visual in my head and pushed through. After I added the pearls and the flower, phew, thank goodness it turned out okay 😂. The dress is fully lined with polyester satin on the inside with invisible zipper at center back opening. All skirt hemlines are roll-hemmed. I found out how hard roll hemming a very sheer very lightweight organdi with roll-hem footer; so I did it manually to get a neat result and questioned my decision to use organdi in the first place throughout the whole process 🥲. All in all I like the final look! I think I'm in love with sage green now and my next projects are probably gonna be all in sage lol. More on reddit.com
