Savings Plan Question
If you commit to pay $100 you will pay $100 but can consume on demand worth up to $122 (18% of 122 is about 22) without paying extra. But remember that this is a flat hourly commitment, and if your capacity fluctuates during the day/week you may pay more than just paying on demand for whatever you use. More on reddit.com

How to do cost estimation for Amazon Sagemaker
If you're bringing your own model, you don't need to use SageMaker. I've got mixtral-8x7b.Q5_K_M running on a g5.2xlarge (24GB of VRAM, 32 GB RAM), and it's $1.212 per hour in us-east-1. Just be sure to pick the Ubuntu deep learning AMI, as it has the required GPU drivers. Be aware that you're paying for the server whenever it's running - not just when you're interacting with the model. If you forget to shut it off and leave it for a month, that's $860... Savings Plans: New EC2 RI Replacement

It's unclear at this point if this can be stacked along with spot/reserved instance types, but it would be great if this was the case. Looks like this has just dropped as the links to the official documentation are a 404: https://aws.amazon.com/savingsplans/

People also ask

What is a savings plan in AWS?
AWS Savings Plans let you commit to a consistent hourly spend over 1 or 3 years in exchange for discounted rates. The discount applies automatically across services like EC2, Fargate, and Lambda, helping reduce compute costs while offering more flexibility than Reserved Instances. However, the challenge is often figuring out how much Savings Plans for compute usage to commit to – if you don’t buy enough you’ll be stuck paying costly On Demand rates, but if you buy too much, you’ll unnecessarily spend on unused SP.

What are the two types of savings plans AWS offers?
The two types of Savings Plans offered by AWS are Compute and EC2 Savings Plans. Compute Savings Plans apply to any EC2 instance, Fargate, or Lambda usage across all regions and instance types. EC2 Instance Savings Plans offer higher discounts but are limited to a specific EC2 instance family and region, making them better suited for predictable, stable workloads.

What is the difference between savings plan and reserved instances?
Savings Plans apply to a broader set of compute options and adjust automatically across instance types, sizes, and regions. Reserved Instances are more rigid, requiring upfront decisions about instance type and region. However, Convertible Reserved Instances can be exchanged for other RIs with different attributes. Both offer discounts, but the type of flexibility they offer is different.

EC2 Instance Savings Plans: With this type of Savings Plan, you can potentially realize the most savings—up to 72%; however, unlike Compute Savings Plans, you do need to commit to a specific family (e.g., c4 in US East (Ohio)) to realize these savings. You can move between different instance types within the same family and Region (e.g., c4.large to c4.xlarge) as the original instance. Amazon SageMaker Savings Plans: This type applies to SageMaker usage commitments.
