Thinking about enhancing your home entertainment experience? I have been using the Samsung 50’’ Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV and I have to say that there are some really remarkable features that it comes with.
*Update* We bought it from an Amazon store that was on a limited-time discount. Click on this link to check if it is still available.
Movies, sports or any other content looks almost lifelike owing to the Samsung Crystal UHD technology that 50’’ TV uses. The non 4k content was upscaled decently too. Moreover the 4k resolution coupled with Samsung PurColor technology catered vivid colors that further supplemented the impressive image quality.
There was a Motion Xcelerator feature that I found useful as it made fast moving scenes to be less blurry. Other than this, the TV is equipped with a Mega Contrast feature and the combined advantages of these two features allowed scenes that were dark to be more visible without causing the bright areas to be too washed out.
Furthermore, Tizen OS, the operating system solely made by Samsung, is more straightforward to use, allowing immediate access to streaming apps that are popular. Moreover, Q Symphony was another useful feature enhancing the sound experience as it merged the television sound with the output from Samsung soundbars.
Final thoughts
So to sum it all up, at a reasonable price, the smart features available on the Samsung 50’’ Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV make it a good purchase along with its impressive image quality.
A closer look at the SAMSUNG 50" Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV
Just a few days ago, I received this Samsung 50-Inch smart 4K TV. Let me tell you that my experience when tinkering with the device has been quite fascinating. The ads highlight the Crystal UHD 4K which guarantees sharp images with vivid colors. The addition of PurColor technology improves colors;
4K upscaling renders lower-quality images to look better than they otherwise would. The Motion Xcelerator feature assists in minimizing the blur in fast-paced action scenes something I observed while watching some major sporting events.
Internet TV capabilities are done on Tizen OS by Samsung. It is central for usage and integration of different streaming services. For audio only sound bars from Samsung should suffice.
However, on the flip side, there are only 2 HDMI ports available. If there are too many devices to be connected, this may pose a restriction.
Typically, 60 Hz refresh rate is what TVs offer and this might not be sufficient for gamers. Nevertheless, the television impresses me with its fair value, smart features and image quality for most users.
PurColor Technology
To my surprise, the Samsung TV that I used had an excellent PurColor capability. It actually stretches the colors that one can expect to be displayed on an RGB standard display. While watching nature videos, I could see the shades of green in grass or the leaves that were portrayed very well on the screen. The sunsets in the videos looked quite real with the shades of orange and red looking incredibly animated. This makes everything from films to recreation even more realistic. I would not state that it is as good as more expensive models with QLED but PurColor certainly makes the experience better compared to basic LED TVs. It is a good improvement, which in my opinion, most users would welcome, particularly for video clips with rich colors.
Lush 4K Upscaling
That, in my opinion, is the sole true benefit of having a 4K television, as I was impressed with the 4K upscaling of this Samsung TV: It greatly improves the appearance of low-resolution material. I viewed a few old DVDs and the enhancement was staggering and beyond imagination. I like how the TV makes every pixel better by enhancing details I had never seen before. Shows that aren't even in 4K look a lot better. It isn't quite the same as native 4K, but it's not too far off. The upscaling feature works impressively well with most content, however, I did observe some artifacts in several of the fast moving components. Regardless, it's a fantastic compliment that revitalizes my older media collection.
Melting of Motion with Motion Xcelerator
The clarity of action was markedly improved owing to this Samsung TV, everything remained responsive and seamless movement was retained. The Motion Xcelerator option’s ability to reduce blur and lag is put to the test during fast action sequence. Even while I followed up on sports and action movies, the picture remained crisp and more importantly, simple to watch. It won't match the performance of higher-grade models, but it does well enough for the price point. Standard 60Hz is the Refresh Rate so, miracles are not expected. After all, I was able to get a better motion handling than simple TVs. This also enhanced the experience of watching sports and the experience of playing video games. Clear movement complements the picture in 4K making the whole experience more enjoyable.
Mega contrast: The Solution For Deep Black Shades
This Samsung television features a mega-contrast function that stunned me completely. It enhances the quality of pictures as the TV automatically modifies the contrast and the brightness of each scene. In this way, the light regions become more saturated and the dark regions come out even more. I enjoyed this effect the most when I watched movies that contained extended dark sequences. The shade of a dark color that it rendered was rich and bold. This quality is far superior to my previous old TV. It also improved the saturated scenes to a better degree without becoming overbearing. This high dynamic range quality ensures that the various shades produced are more realistic. I was easily capable of differentiating between elements that I would have otherwise ignored however, these shades were not without flaws. It is important to note that these set nudes are still reserved to a specific price point.
Q Symphony - Audio Synchronization
The Q Symphony option on this Samsung TV is one of the features that I find fascinating. It lets me connect the television with a Samsung Q series or S series soundbar for better sound. In other words, when I tested it, the soundbar and the TV speakers worked in harmony and it produced fuller sound. The sound was particularly enhanced when I watched movies. This feature is a great addition if you have a compatible Samsung soundbar. This is how it goes, however, the soundbar must be purchased separately. The quality of the Q Symphony is excellent, when compared to the speakers built into the TV, but this is already a higher standard of audio that you would normally encounter in a theater environment if that is what you are searching for.
Pros and Cons
I have been using this Samsung TV for quite some time. Here are my thoughts on it. What has been a good experience and what has been disappointing.
Pros
PurColor is a feature that would be one of the best ‘out there’ features in a Samsung TV. Other TVs fail to get the right colours, the colours drive true to life on this TV.
Motion Xcelerator seems to alleviate the blurriness experienced during fast motion in sports and action movies.
Mega Contrast balances the bright and dark areas of the picture quite comfortably.
If you possess a Samsung soundbar, the Q Symphony feature is capable of enhancing sound delivery experience.
Cons
The Smart TV capability is decent and enables one to gain access to some basic functions but is still not as smooth and easy to use as some of the other brands that I have tried with this model.
The picture quality is okay but is not the best, although the differences may not seem notable, higher end QLED or OLED TVs are a step up from this one.
The inbuilt speakers are mediocre to average which means you will have to purchase a sound barr to enhance the audio quality.
In the situation where you have children and pets around, it is better to wall mount it since the stand is slightly flimsy.
For those on the lower end of the technical savviness spectrum, some settings may be difficult to alter for example ones that are particularly picky.
There are some drawbacks to this Samsung TV model and is not one of the best models out there but for its price range, the performance is great. A decent mid-range model that comes with some nice features and decent picture quality for the price.
User Experience Evaluation
The interface on the Samsung TV was simple and easy to use. The operating system installed on the device was the Tizen smart platform which was very responsive enabling me to use streaming applications easily. Using the remote to go through menus and change settings was satisfying as well. The 4k content was visually stunning and the picture quality was clear and sharp. The gaming latency was a bit above average but not the greatest. Basic voice commands were effective as well. However, there was a slight lag when switching between inputs or applications. All things considered, I believe the TV offers an enjoyable experience with great overall simplicity making it perfect for most people.
Tizen OS and Smart Functions
I must say, the smart features of the tv are quite impressive. The Tizen OS operates seamlessly and provides access to widely used streaming services. The navigation is straightforward making it user friendly especially for the novices. I appreciated the speed with which I was able to transition between apps and different inputs. The voice prompting response was acceptable for a few common functions. This model also works well with other Samsung devices like their soundbar or phone which can be quite useful. It does not have the most advanced smart features but it provides basic ones which most people expect. The available applications are decent but when compared to other platforms it is limited. So far, I am content with the performance of the Tizen OS because it is not too complicated for average tv viewers.
Conclusion
I was very much impressed by the performance of this Samsung TV. The auto focus 4K resolution makes shows and movies quite colorful and detailed. It does not have as many features as the more expensive options do, but it is quite appropriate for regular use. The integration of other smart features is also straightforward, providing quick access to popular streaming services. Picture quality is good for the price, however, true movie buffs might consider purchasing a more expensive model. All in all, if someone is looking for an affordable 50 inch 4K smart TV, then this Samsung model would suffice. It provides great viewing experience at a reasonable price.
