Samsung Galaxy Watch Active review: A cheaper, round-faced alternative to the Apple Watch - CNET
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
Samsung's latest smartwatch may look more bare-bones that the original Galaxy Watch, but it has just as many features to boast, comes at a fraction of the price and has a few kinks to iron out. Samsung's Galaxy Watch Active is the younger, sportier, sibling of flagship Galaxy Watch from 2018  packed in a slimmer and more barebones exterior. It has a slightly smaller screen that comes in only one size with no LTE alternative, with a sleeker body that feels lighter and lies flatter on the wrist. But it's most attractive quality is arguably its price. At $200, it's almost half the price of an A

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Review: A Great Wearable for Exercise Tracking | WIRED
March 16, 2019 - It’s sleeker and more lightweight than any other Samsung smartwatch I’ve worn, and it records a whole bunch of activities too. I like this smartwatch a lot. This isn’t in the category of praise like, “I didn’t hate wearing it, so that’s good.” It also doesn’t mean that it’s perfect. I mean that the Galaxy Watch Active struck me as attractive as soon as I took it out of the box, and I actively sought to wear it again after taking it off for periods of time.

Garmin Venu Sq vs Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 - Which is better?

Garmin for sure, unless you won't use any fitness function because Samsung HR sensors are flawed crazily, they keep flatening and losing detection since generation 1, probably some strange software flaw they cant resolve, but ultimately makes them unusable for workouts.

My Active Watch 2 review - thoughts?

I agree, love the watch. I could love it more, but since this is my first smart watch I have nothing to complain about.

Sometimes when I venture into the wearOS subreddit I feel like there's a lot of issues going on with the Fossil watches. So I'm happy with my decision to pay a bit more for a Samsung watch

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active review
The Galaxy Watch Active is a cheaper, slimmer smartwatch with GPS and full waterproofing. It's still best when used with a Samsung phone though. Here's our full review Samsung launched a new smartwatch alongside its slick, excellent  Galaxy S10. It’s called the Galaxy Watch Active and Samsung says it’s a fitness tracker but also a full-on smartwatch. Rather than feeling like a halfway house, we reckon it’s the best Samsung smartwatch for most people. The company has a confusing line up of smartwatches and trackers but the Galaxy Watch Active is the best combination of design, fit, performance

Review: Samsung Galaxy Watch Active (SM-R500) – Pickr
June 10, 2019 - Unlike the Apple Watch and the wearables made by Fitbit, the Galaxy Active borrows from the traditional circle of watch design, providing a relatively small smartwatch for your wrist that lets you read off a 1.1 inch AMOLED screen, complete with other features thrown in, including a 1.15GHz processor, 4GB storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and more. Unsurprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy Active will tell you the time With several watchfaces, many of which are new to the Galaxy range.

March 8, 2019 - Compared to the Samsung Gear Sport, the brand’s previous non-LTE smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active maintains a smooth, low profile. The Gear Sport’s rotating bezel is gone in favor of a slightly smaller AMOLED display, which makes menu scrolling a bit slower.

r/pebble on Reddit: One week review of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2
September 17, 2021 -

So, it's been a week since I picked up my new-to-me Galaxy Watch Active 2 and I thought I'd leave a bit of a review for anyone pondering their next move after Pebble. Here's my thoughts in no particular order:

**Note: I did not pay full price for this new, I bought it used for $160 CDN. At that price I think it's solid value, but full price is steep.

  • Battery life: I'm happier than I expected to be. With the screen always on, you can get about a day and a half, so basically have to charge every night, but with always-on disabled, I'm getting 3 full days of moderate to heavy use on a charge, with about 15% left at bedtime on day 3. The watch activates easily when you lift your wrist, so I haven't found myself missing the always-on display. Is this Pebble-like battery life? Hell no, but I can live with it.

  • It looks great, beautiful bright display and nice-looking case. My only minor critique would be that the 20mm band feels a little slim, I would've preferred 22mm.

  • The stock band actually feels pretty good even though I don't normally like plastic bands, but I already have a stainless steel band I'm going to put on tomorrow.

  • Handles all my notifications nicely, with options to reply by canned message, emoji or dictation. Hell there's even a way to type directly on the watch like texting on an old flip phone, so reply options abound. (On Android, iOS is a lesser experience from my understanding.)

  • I can initiate a call or text from the watch, with the same input options as above. Same iOS caveat as above.

  • Lets me control my music. Also lets me download music directly to the watch, but I don't need that feature. One downside is it's on the touchscreen, so you have to look at the watch unlike a Pebble.

  • You can take a call from the watch. Not something I expect to need, but cool if you're not close to your phone and don't want to miss that call.

  • Full suite of health options, including heart rate tracking. That wasn't a concern for me, I'm happy with just a step counter, but it seems really well done and Samsung Health seems cool.

  • Really cool touch bezel to navigate the screen/scroll through messages/navigate to apps. Slick, works great and has a really satisfying haptic feedback 'click' as you move through the dial. Brilliant stuff, way more intuitive than swiping the screen, and also for some degree of no-look operation.

  • Beyond the bezel navigation is touchscreen, but there's a back button and a home button. The home button can be set to launch a favourite app/function with a double-press.

So far there's no big negative, and nothing that's annoying me. I miss my Pebble, but I think I'm going to be happy with this choice.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active review | Best Buy Blog
May 2, 2019 - You can be active with either watch, but if you’re looking for something lighter without losing much functionally, Samsung thinks this is the watch for you. Physically, the Galaxy Watch Active is noticeably smaller than its larger sibling. In fairness, though, this watch is equally closer in relation to the Gear Sport, which is being phased out.
