How many years can i get out of a Note10+ 5G in 2023?
Hey, the Note10 is probably one of the best phones Samsung had ever released. I'm currently using one, and it feels super snappy after "debloating" it just a bit. The last patch date that we got is August 2023, no further updates will come to our phones anymore. Apart from the Google Play system updates. These should keep coming and these also contain some security patches too. They won't patch a big security hole in the OS tho, but atleast it's something. You're probably good for about 2 years, depending on how app developers will keep their apps compatible with Android 12. I'd expect to wait for atleast 4 years from now to see some apps drop support. idk not an expert. But my old phone with Android 7 is still working fine... About that 5G tho... It is one of the first 5G modems and it is definitely showing it's age. Probably best to turn on 5G only when needed to save a ton of battery. tl;dr If you've got it for a bargain, sure why not. 2, max 3 years. More on reddit.com

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G Is a Huge Mess

It feels like the Note 10 in general is a huge mess.

I can pay 200 dollars more than last year and get a slightly bigger screen, wavy pen, 200mah of battery, and no headphone jack... or pay the same as last year and get a smaller phone, smaller battery, no expandable storage, less screen resolution, and still no headphone jack when compared to last year's Note 9.

Or I can also get this cool 5G Model where I have less band coverage than the regular model... but can blow through my data plan in 20 minutes in a few select cities across the country lol...

Title, I'm using a regular note10 right now but I want the 5g 6.3 one

Versions: SM-N971U (USA); SM-N971N (South Korea)

I can't find either of these anywhere and it's driving me nuts! I know at least 1 other person bought one recently but I have no idea where they bought it from.

Your Note 10 will be fine for years to come. I'd say, a device is as good as long as you can get apps on it to work. As of right now, Android 6 is the minimum Android version required for most apps to run. In essence, the Note 10 should be able to run for another 5 years, if not longer. That being said, as far as security vulnerabilities are concerned, many security vulnerabilities either demand physical device access or are nearly impractical for real-world exploitation. For instance, the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities that garnered extensive media attention; no documented instances of their successful exploitation exist to my knowledge. They required an extraordinary combination of skill to be effective. Concern arises if you're a highly specific target, such as a government diplomat or high net worth individual. Nowadays, 99.9% of hackers typically employ simpler methods like phishing links to steal login information. As such, it's more important to ensure your browser app is up-to-date, including the framework. These updates have been independent of software updates for sometime on Android. Another argument might be sideloading questionable apps that poses a risk. Android's architecture has evolved, and it's exceedingly rare for apps alone to gain root-level access. Without root access, apps still need user permission to operate. That's not to say a zero day vulnerability that hasn't been discovered yet may be sitting dormant on your Note 10. It's important to keep up with the news if anything changes in the future. Questionable sideloaded apps may, at worst, pilfer data you've granted them access to or serve as adware. In such cases, the presence or absence of security patches is irrelevant; vulnerability remains consistent, even with the latest patches. Furthermore, it's worth noting that many Android devices no longer receive security patches, but incidents of widespread hacking are scarce. Some users continue using phones without security updates for years without issue. Don't forget that, even when security updates cease, Google Play Services and most apps continue to receive regular updates, enhancing system security. In summary, the importance of security patches can be overstated, and not all advice on this matter is accurate. The biggest culprits will be the battery degradation along with other factors depending on how you use your phone. For example, I wouldn't trust the water resistance rating on it, given the glue likely lost or is in the process of losing it's chemical composition. Maybe consider limiting the screen brightness — the screen will be more susceptible to burn in and dead pixel. Other lesser known problems could be memory errors. Every flash memory has a lifespan, that is dependent on how many times it has been written to. While I've heard of cases of phones turning into a brick, it's unlikely due to use and more to do with the hardware manufacturer. Luckily, Samsung is stringent on the quality of their hardware — they have a proven track history of being dependable. Last but not least, I'd consider opting for a wireless charger at this point to reduce how often you plug your phone. This will reduce strain on the port, leading to a longer lifespan. TL;DR Your Note will last a long time despite lack of security updates. Be cautious with the battery, screen, water, and USB port.
