History Buffs of SF
The history museums in SF are pretty small and focus on niche content. Personally my favorites are: The Cable Car Museum: learn about how the cable cars work by seeing the operations firsthand. 100% free. Musee Mecanique: it's a collection of historic arcade machines. Free to enter but you'll want to bring quarters. What I'd strongly recommend for local history is to check out SF City Guides walking tours . They're free (though they ask for a donation) and affiliated with the city library. Most of their tours focus on local and regional history one way or another. Across the bay, the Oakland Museum of California provides a decent overview of local history though it's largely aimed at about a middle school age level. More on reddit.com

What are some good museums in San Francisco?
If you really don't have a preference, just go generic and hit up the large established museums like De Young, MOMA, Asian Art, Legion of Honor, Exploratorium, etc. More on reddit.com
