Hello, I think scheduled Reserved Instances do not cease being available after some time as long as your usage matches the schedule. Thanks Answer from Abhinav Chauhan on repost.aws

The exams have been updated the only way you might see it is as a wrong answer as its clearly stated they no longer exist and will not be. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ec2-scheduled-instances.html More on reddit.com

Understanding AWS Reserved Instances
It's a correct, but not complete answer. You can only reserve the *compute* portion of an instance. If you exceed free-tier usage, you will still pay for storage (EBS Volumes), Bandwidth, EIPs, Load Balancers, and bandwidth. At least EB apps usually have most of those things associated with them. You're prepaying for a discount on the hourly cost of compute, basically. It is generally worth it. They also recently introduced AWS Savings Plans, which is like reserved instances but way more flexible. Again, you're only reserving compute, but you can say "I promise to spend $X/hr on compute" and the amount of usage they charge you drops by a decent percent, like 30% or more in many cases. I'd recommend digging in to your bill in more detail and see where the charges actually are. Two t2.micro instances should cost nearly nothing at $0.0116/hr, or about 8.50 a month each, in us-east-1. AWS Blog: Scheduled Reserved Instances

What would make this a REAL killer app is if AWS itself allowed us to schedule our instances to stop and start.

I'm actually wondering why this functionality hasn't been released yet.

(Though I will say with Lambda this automation becomes much easier)

June 10, 2025 - In comparison, you could use Standard Reserved Instances with various instance types. But you’d need to have a Linux OS and Default Tenancy. You can also queue AWS Savings Plans to apply automatically at a future date rather than immediately. You can avoid using more expensive On-Demand instances by scheduling Savings Plans to deploy before or after your existing subscription expires.
