I did the HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and ReactJS units of FreeCodeCamp, and left frustrated with the experience. Each nugget of info was great, but was at a loss when asked to put a project together. So far I'm loving the Scrimba courses. Not only do they teach the details, but they show how to make a holistic project.

But is the paid option worth it? To tell the truth, I'm strapped for cash. They've sent a 24h discount, and it might save me a lot of money if I pull that trigger. However, I'd save even more money if I don't at all.

I'd like to know from people who paid. Did you get your money's worth from the pro courses? Or would I be just as well off with the free ones?

I've completed Scrimba's paid front end developer career course. Here's my opinion on it. If you're tight on money, it really depends on your situation and you as a person. If you struggle with self directed learning like I do, it's great. If you can look at project ideas and know what to look up to recreate them on your own without tutorials, you probably don't need it. Their main course is great because it progressively builds knowledge where they give you the opportunity to make projects from scratch, but only after giving you introductory exercises that are similar to what you do on the project. You reuse a lot of the knowledge from previous projects on the later stuff, so it reinforces itself. That was it's main selling point for me. I hadn't encountered other curriculum in courses that tell you what to learn and in what order like you would get at a school. Most other courses are just code alongs, which don't help me with learning. Until I make it myself, I don't know anything. So, to me it helped tremendously. However, if you can look up a learning roadmap and project ideas from somebody else, read documentation and put together projects on your own, you don't need it. It was taking me way too long to learn front end development on my own, and I was getting stuck, so I went for their course. For you though, keep in mind, it will take more than one month to complete. I completed their certification course in about 3 months, but that was with trying 4+ hours per day on weekdays, and apparently I completed it faster than most. It's about 80 hours of video, so expect at least 160 more hours from doing projects. If you're doing 20 hours of effort per week, you'll get about the same pace. If the cost for that many months is too much, consider something like the odin project. The odin project is more self directed, but a lot of people swear by it and I've heard good stuff. I was getting into that right before I switched to scrimba. If you do go for scrimba, they also have small courses on testing and typescript, which aren't part of their main curriculum that I wish were because they're very valuable in today's job market, so if you go for their stuff, consider looking at that.

I'm planning to subscribe to Scrimba Pro, and I wanted to get genuine feedback from fellow Indian developers or learners before I commit. I've seen a lot of hype around their Frontend Career Path and also the backend, but I want to know if it's really as effective as they claim. If you've taken any Scrimba course, especially the career path ones, how was your experience? Were the projects good enough to build a real portfolio? Did it help you get a job or internship? How's the teaching quality compared to platforms like Udemy or freeCodeCamp? Also, does the pricing feel justified? I have been using Scrimba Pro and following their Front-End Developer Career Path. I haven’t tried other platforms, but for me, who has learning difficulties, especially reading and writing difficulties, this helps a lot. Their interactive videos, where you code directly in the browser, make it easier to learn than just reading or watching regular videos. I have learned a lot in just six months on Scrimba. I can set my own pace and study time, but discipline is important. Many times I have felt stupid and almost wanted to give up — not just once, but many times. The only thing that kept me going was my motivation. So please, don’t give up. Talk to someone in the community for support. It’s easy to get frustrated and lose confidence — this happened to me almost every week in the beginning. But I also learned that this is a normal part of the learning process for many people when they are new to programming, not just on Scrimba. If you have slow learning like me, don’t worry about how long it takes. Let it take two years if needed. In the end, you will thank yourself for not giving up. There are right and wrong ways to study. If you don’t know how to study properly, find out — all the information is on the internet. It’s easy to scroll past important concepts and miss them along the way. I have completed over 40% of the course. The price can scare away some people with a low budget, but if you can afford it, it’s worth it. I got a discount code from my school (which I left before starting Scrimba). Keep going, even when it’s hard. You don’t have to be the fastest — just don’t stop. Every small step counts, and one day you’ll look back and be proud of how far you’ve come. 💪

Hi all,

I am starting with my new carrier (Front end developer), hopefully .I dont have any experience with the programming. My background is Chemistry xD . I found out about Scrimba. Does it worth to go with pro plan ? or is it better to go with courses like Udemy, Freecodecamp,w3schools ,Zerotomastery (ZTM) etc?

I've been going through Scrimba and I really like it. They have an interesting format that puts a code editor into the browser, so you can edit and add to the code the instructor was just writing. The basic courses are all free, so I would suggest you try a few and see if you like the format. They will give you discounted offers for Pro once in a while, so if you're getting value out of it, you can wait for a deal.

I really like Scrimba I feel like it is a good balance between watching a tutorial and coding on your own. They also have projects to work on and the Discord community is super friendly.

So I've decided to get a 6 months subscription. I think I can complete all 77 or so courses in 2-3 months if I use it daily for 1-2 hours. Then another 3 months to focus on the class projects.It's still cheaper and a better deal I think than what the Fireship guy is selling (with discount) for a permanent access to his courses. I started right away checking out the Figma to Code course. So far so good. Instructor is youtuber/Udemyer Gary Simon. Youtuber Kevin Powell also has scrimba coursers. But I don't know if both are still doing videos for Scrimba or have gone totally independent. Okay naman so far and Figma to Code 'cuz I've been searching for weeks for something like it. Kevin Powell and Oak Harbor have tutorials on Youtube but they're too intermediate for me to follow. So, just right lang for beginners itong course in Gary Simon. I've checked Figma's official YT channel and I don't think this is covered at all other than 100% design related topics.

Yes it’s absolutely worth it. Generally, Most of the people just watch videos and take notes and never apply those concepts. But in scrimba you’ll be given practical coding challenges at every stage, almost in every video. I’ve been learning react on scrimba and I can say that you’ll be solving challenges multiple times till that concept becomes a muscle memory. I personally think this type of learning is by far the best cause traditional videos and tutorials won’t be useful if you don’t have any practical applications.
