I’m an absolute beginner into programming, and I want to start with a course. I was thinking of choosing between Scrimba (as they now have a full-stack course) or should I go with Codeacademy?

I do not want to waste any time, I’ve used both to learn HTML and CSS fundamentals, and a bit of Javascript but I was thinking what would be more helpful for me in the long run.

If it matters, I am looking at a career in Data Science but I also do want to learn full-stack engineering, maybe do a bit of Ai.

Any other recommendations for resources would be greatly appreciated 😁

Scrimba vs freeCodeCamp

FreeCodeCamp is probably better for a structured, comprehensive learning path with projects that build on each other, while Scrimba is great if you prefer interactive video tutorials where you can code along directly in the browser. Both are good, so I'd say pick based on whether you learn better from reading/doing projects (freeCodeCamp) or watching/coding along (Scrimba). More on reddit.com

Thoughts about Scrimba?

Yes it’s absolutely worth it. Generally, Most of the people just watch videos and take notes and never apply those concepts. But in scrimba you’ll be given practical coding challenges at every stage, almost in every video. I’ve been learning react on scrimba and I can say that you’ll be solving challenges multiple times till that concept becomes a muscle memory. I personally think this type of learning is by far the best cause traditional videos and tutorials won’t be useful if you don’t have any practical applications. More on reddit.com

I tried the Odin project and did not like it at all. I may try it again down the road but I felt I was all over the place. Today I started codeacademy python course and finished the first python module is it worth it to get the paid version ?

Code Academy and FreeCodeCamp are alright for learning the syntax if you are absolute beginner. But The Odin Project will help you learn how the job annually gets done. When you'll finish with Code Academy you'll realize that with all that knowledge you don't actually know how to build something. The Odin Project teaches it from the start. Give The Odin Project another chance.
