I have it. I already returned a Tempurpedic firm for sinking in too much, the Ridgecrest (comfortable but felt like the foam was cheap and wouldn't last), and the Kirkland, which was lumpy and saggy after several months. I decided to top it with a 2+ 1 Tempur Cloud Topper. This gives a flat surface with a slight memory sink and a comfortable cushion for pressure relief. The Carver without a topper is too firm for me. It's bouncy but doesn't sink very much, so it appears soft because of the bounce but it does not sink overnight, so you wake up on top of the mattress where you started (with shoulder pain). A mattress topper will expand its life exponentially because, as someone said, the polyfoam layer they use is probably cheap, and I don't want to sleep directly on it and deplete it. Anyway, the springs seem quality. There is a lot of loose stitching on the mattress, but I read that this is part of the process with all mattresses. Costco's return policy is great. Basically, my theory was to avoid as much foam as possible and then add my own to the desired comfort. You'll need a topper for pressure points. Helping a lot with my lower back pain. r/Mattress on Reddit: Looking at 2 mattresses. One latex and one foam (Sealy vs Harvest)
December 14, 2024 -

Today we went to 2 stores, online mattress showroom and mattress firm. At mattress firm we liked the sealy highpoint. At online showroom we liked Harvest pillow top.

Both mattresses have 1090 coils. The Harvest is 13 inch thick latex. The sealy is 14 inch foam. Seems like almost identical except foam vs latex.

Any thoughts on the pros or cons of latex vs foam? Or the 2 mattresses in general? The latex did feel more bouncy, but it wasn't a big issue for us. The latex felt more cool, but the foam wasn't bad either (sleeping hot has never really been a big issue for us). It sounds like latex might hold up better over time? They both were very comfortable, maybe the sealy wins for comfort but they were very close for us. Sealy does seem like a more legit brand with likely better customer service if theres any issues.

Links to the 2 we are considering.

If you want a more standard firm innerspring its a decent choice since you get Costco's generous return policy to go with the mattress. Its difficult to get mattresses without memory foam in them from the major brands, but the carver is one of them. Its 2.5" of regular polyfoam over coils, so it will give you a more responsive traditional feel if that is something youre looking for. Being a mattress from one of the major S brands means they do not disclose any measurable metric of quality such as foam density, so the safe assumption is that they use low quality foam.

August 17, 2025 - Like I mentioned, pure latex is naturally cooling. Because the mattress does not contain any memory foam, you won’t get much heat retention, which makes it an excellent choice for those that tend to sleep hot.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Looking at the Sealy from Costco any advice appreciated!
May 27, 2023 -

My girlfriend and I are going to be moving in with each other and I’m looking to upgrade the mattress. We went to a mattress firm and had a wonderfully awful time but did figure out that we want the classic style spring mattress, firm, and a soft pillow top.

I am a back/side sleeper and she is a side sleeper. I’m 6’4 260 and she’s 6’0 230ish? and sometimes/every night a 60lb golden retriever will find her way up on the bed.

In our short time trying out different mattresses at MF before getting told they were done helping us cause we weren’t purchasing one that day, we liked the beauty rest, and sterns and foster but they were like 3200$ and that’s just too much. When we made our way to Costco we noticed the sealy mattress was under 1000 and I do love me the Costco return policy so I did a little more research. We narrowed it down to 2 mattresses and if anyone here has some input from using them it would be really appreciated!

The first one

https://www.costco.com/sealy-posturepedic-carver-11”-firm-or-13.5”-plush-mattress.product.100694157.html

And second one

https://www.costco.com/sealy-posturepedic-plus-ridgecrest-14”-firm-or-plush-mattress.product.100365517.html

Both would be a king/plush - we want a firm mattress with a soft top. These were our middle ground diecoveries.:

I honestly couldn’t tell you the difference between the 2 other than a whopping 1/2 inch. We did find ourselves at Costco the other day and tried laying on the non plush version and we both thought it was pretty good but still wanted that plush pillow top. Some things I guess I would be most curious about if someone in a similar stat situation as me had some experience with.

  • was this mattress able to survive some larger users?

  • were you happy with it down the road?

  • would a firm version and pillow top be a better option?

  • should I pick it up from Costco or have it delivered?

  • slats, box spring, flat board? Where we at with what it sits on?

  • if you hated the same mattress and returned it what did you wind up with after and same questions.

Absolutely have it delivered-- if you need to return it they will just come get it. If you buy from the store, you will have to return it to the store yourself. If you like firm, get the Kirkland Stearns & Foster Lakeridge Medium. It is much firmer than a medium, and a very nice heavy well made mattress. You can add a nice soft latex or memory foam topper. (I prefer latex toppers, expecially for a larger person since they are easier to manuever around on.) I returned this mattress because it was too firm for me, I prefer a true medium. But, the mattress was very nice. I hated the Sealy Ridgecrest Plush. It was soft and awful and the memory foam collapsed immediately. The Sealy Auburn also had quickly collapsing foam. I returned all three. After all that misery, I ended up with a DIY Arizona Premium Mattress (Bolsa Springs, medium blended talalay, bamboo zippered cover; then a soft blended talalay with a cover on top. I recently wrote a review here) LOVE IT. We are also two very tall heavy people and we are finally comfortable. If you go this route, you can get a firm layer instead of a medium, and still have that nice soft topper. Good luck! This journey sucked, but we are finally happy.

in my experience the store test doesn't give you a true sense of firmness because mattresses soften up quite a bit after about a month. just cuz it seemed firm on the showroom floor doesn't mean it'll stay firm. i strongly recommend avoiding plush if you want firmness. plush means soft. you want luxury plush or medium firm at the softest.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Do you know if Sleepys by Sealy Memory Foam Plush Mattress (Queen mattress) is a good mattress that will last?
June 5, 2024 -

I went to Mattress Firm and this mattress is the one that is $1649 but is currently marked down to $699 for Memorial Day Sale just for reference.

I tried a bunch of mattresses that were under $2k and this was the best I could find. It’s the softest one to me that still had the most support and it doesn’t feel like the entire bed is uptight enough that it won’t let my back muscles relax when laying on my back. I really like it but I don’t know if it’ll last years.

The other one that I liked but liked way less because it wouldn’t let my back muscles relax is the Sleepys Hybrid Medium Mattress (Queen mattress). I really didn’t find much else I liked even if I went up to $5k (which I would never pay). They just didn’t work for my back since I have a bulging spinal disc where I have to have it be extremely fricken soft while also having some kind of support.

I really need like the softest thing imaginable while also not having my spine sink and fall out of my back is basically what I need to relax and be okay. So do you know if the first mattress is fine to buy and keep longterm? And also there are no more mattresses at my Mattress Firm that I like that are under $2k even with Memorial Sale so what do I do if these mattresses aren’t any good quality?

I can't speak to the quality of the mattress, but don't be fooled by the sales price. Most of the major manufacturers dictate the prices that retailers can charge. But MF bought Sleepys so that they could set the MSRP at artificially high prices and offer "huge" discounts. It's a marketing ploy, similar to how many different industries operate. Now... if the mattress works for you, that is awesome. Every body is different, it can be difficult to find the right mix of support and comfort for your individual physiology. You have found one that might work, which is great! Just don't fall for the artificial urgency of a limited time sale that is neither limited in time or a sale.

What makes mattress shopping difficult is quality and comfort are not directly related. Some of the most comfortable mattresses can also be the cheapest, but because they are lower quality that comfort quickly goes away as the foam breaks down. We dont know the quality of sleepys or any of the other mattresses sold by the major manufacturers because the most important metric for measuring quality, foam density, is not something they like to release to the public. They prefer a consumer base who will make those decisions based on marketing rather than on measurable metric of quality. A lot of online brands have better transparency and will either list foam density directly, or at the very least release the information to reviewers or people who ask. The trouble with them is you dont get to lay down on their mattresses before you make a purchase. Avoiding the big chains is always great advice. The best place to shop in person can often be a local mattress manufacturer. You can find them by zooming in when searching around google maps, usually in every major metro area there will be a few. These are better places to shop as they will have simpler built mattresses from brands you likely never heard of. They will be more transparent about the density of each layer of foam, and they will have better quality materials for the price.

r/Mattress on Reddit: Opinions on Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid High Point 14" Plush Mattress?
July 18, 2023 -

Hi everyone.

My fiance and I are looking for a new mattress. We went into Mattress Firm and fell in love with the Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid High Point 14" Plush Mattress. However, the price tag is a little steep and we can't seem to find much about it outside reviews on their website.

We currently sleep on a rented inner spring mattress so we're pretty sure anything will be better than that. But we're also not super keen on spending over $2,000 on something we won't love.

We're looking at a queen size. He's 5'10 and I'm 5'1, both mid-size. We're side sleepers and both have pretty bad back pain from our bed.

We would also appreciate any insight in general about good mattresses for side sleepers, if you have any!

Thanks in advance for any help!
