FTM here! Title basically summarizes my question! I’m working on my registry, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on different registry sites. I’ve made a registry with Babylist because I like that I can link things from different sites so I can find lower prices. I’ve also seen that Amazon offers the completion discount which I think would be super helpful as well to save money and I know Babylist has the option to link another registry. Just wondering if anyone has done the Babylist registry and the Amazon registry linked together and how that was? Also if you have any other recommendations on what would be best I’d really appreciate it!
ETA: I ended up going with Babylist for my baby shower and it was very easy to use. Some people didn’t mark their gift as purchased so just something to send out as a reminder to people. I like that you can track gifts bought through Babylist directly and I didn’t know they offered a 15% off discount too. I did create an Amazon and Target registry privately as well to use the discounts and I find that most of the products are cheaper on there than Babylist but it’s nice to have all the options with their discounts!
Hello all, I just found out some things about how the Amazon Baby Registry works, even though I've had mine set up for a bit now, and I just thought it might be helpful info to pass along.
The Primary Amazon Prime account holder has to be the Primary Registrant on the registry. This might seem obvious, but I didn't even think about it when I set it up. My husband is the one who actually has the Prime account, but you can share a Prime account with other members of your household. So I still have my own Amazon account, but I get the free Prime shipping through him (if that makes sense). So if you are in a similar situation, then the person who actually has the Prime account needs to set up the registry. You can be invited to edit the registry, so you don't need to sign into the Prime holder's account to add or delete things.
The 15% Completion Discount is a one time use thing. I thought that any items that were on the registry would just be eligible for a discount but that's not how it works. You can place one order when the completion discount becomes available (60 days before your due date) and anything that is marked "completion discount eligible" will be 15% off IN THAT ONE ORDER ONLY. Once you use it, that's it, even if other eligible items on your registry remain. You can add items right up until you place the order, though, to see if they are eligible. They don't need to have been on your registry already. The order will also need to be placed through the Prime account holder's account (so I'll have to log into my husband's account to place this order).
Also for people who share a Prime account, if you return anything to Amazon, say after your baby shower, and you want to redeem it for a gift card, it is best to set up the return on the Prime holder's account, again because the completion discount order has to be placed on that account. So, if I return items I got duplicates of, I can return them for Amazon gift cards, then use that credit towards the completion discount order, BUT, gift cards can NOT be transferred between accounts, so the returns will need to be done on my husband's account if I want to put it towards the completion discount order.
I hope this is helpful and not confusing, haha. Maybe I made it confusing for us by having two separate Amazon accounts, but it started when we were just living together and not married yet, and now we've just continued to do it this way since I still get to use the free shipping benefit of his Prime account.
So, the TL;DR is: Set up your registry and do all registry-related things on the account of the person who actually has Amazon Prime, even if they have shared their Amazon Prime benefits with you. And the completion discount is a one time order.
Here's a link that explains the Completion Discount more in depth.
