I've noticed on google maps that many businesses have their icons show up at their locations before I search for anything, which can be helpful for getting clicks before a search ever happens. The actual answer is to own your google business listing. Once you are the verified owner, you can pin your location on the map. You should also own your Yelp business listing and your Bing business listing. All three are free.

https://business.google.com/ You need to create a Google business profile. If there isn't a map pin already, you can create one. There's a verification process (phone/email/sometimes they have to mail you a postcard), but it's all pretty simple. Once set up, you can manage your entire listing. They used to have a separate app, but I think it's all integrated into Google Maps now.
