This post lists every member of the new known cast of Season 2, plus a reminder of who's back from the first season. I'll update this list as we get new info of course. (I hope we can replace all these "Unknown" before Season 2 airs :P)
For each actor, you see who they play, a short description of the character, a link to their past experience (IMDb) and finally the source, in other words where the casting info came.
Click on the actor's name to see their photo, or you can directly browse this imgur album to have a complete view on all the new faces of the Continent!
Don't hesitate to tell me if there are mistakes or if I missed an update about an actor/character. Feedback and questions are obviously welcomed too. :)

I totally forgot about Falka being in S2. That should be interesting.
I feel like we're gonna get either a series of scenes about the mage council, or possibly an exposition dump involving them. Likely both.
I'm curious to see if the disaster of Sodden will become the seeds of the misandrist roots of the Lodge. I've held that Tissaia is a prime character to help get that arc going, and now that Philippa's cast as well, I'd say (atleast cast wise) its perfectly teed up. Its worth noting that at Sodden a lot of the cinematography focused on female mages doing most of the battling.

any news about the casting of emhyr var emreis and vesemir ?
"When we were looking at who potentially could fill the shoes of Geralt," said Hissrich, "There is a physicality that has to be present… You need someone who you can imagine can excel at these action scenes, who has such a physical presence that they could be both intimidating in the story, but also, Geralt has a huge emotional side as well… What I really loved about Liam's work that I had seen is that he was able to organically blend those two things."

Let's begin:
1- KAER MORHEN Episodes and scenes in Kaer Morhen felt like some B-level Disney high school movie with gore and nudity:
-
Witchers act like dumb jocks and bullies
-
Triss is the caring arts teacher
-
Ciri is practically a Disney princess
-
I was halfway expecting Ciri, Lambert, or Triss to breakout into a song at any moment.
-
Eskel... They butchered his character and just killed him off like that...
-
Party with hookers in Kaer Morhen... Really? None of the Wolves would ever agree to that, Vesemir would have lost his shit.
2- THE COMEDY Season 1 gave us a couple of nice laughs, season 2 was just trying really hard. Not all was horrible, Jaskier had some good lines, but overall they were hard to sit through, especially the interaction between Ciri and the temple boy. Jaskier's interaction with the guard at the port seemed to symbolize the writers being offended and throwing a hissy fit at criticism.
3- YENNEFER Of all characters, none was butchered more than Yennefer's. From her losing her magic (?), her seemingly uncontrollable temper (we're talking about one of the most level headed characters), to her attempting to use Ciri to get her power back (REALLY??). Anya is a talented actress, but she was given a script whose pages should have been used as backup toilet paper. This isn't Yennefer... This is Maleficent without the horns.
4- THE MALE CHARACTERS Why is it that every male character apart from Geralt, Vesemir, Jaskier, Istredd, and Cahir either an absolute idiot, a sexist pervert, or a mumbling insecure nerd? Or a combination of the traits? The show touches on important subjects, I get it, and it was well put together (more or less) in season 1. In season 2 it felt far more forced.
What do you guys think of the season? Was I too harsh in my criticism? Would you have preferred if things played in a different way?
EDIT: I should have waited to watch the final 2 episodes before writing this post, it would have been far longer. So without further ado, let's resume.
5- THE INCONSISTENCY IN WRITING IN EPISODE 7 The adventure of Ciri and Yen after going through the portal felt like an acid trip:
-
As others have commented, I could probably write an entire paragraph just for the horses.
-
Yen is willing to sacrifice Ciri til the very end (but feels guilty), and only when Ciri spontaneously learns how to read minds, does she makes a 180 turn and wants to protect and is willing to sacrifice herself for her... Again... Spontaneously
-
Geralt covered the distance from Melitele all the way to frigging Cintra... Either fast travel is a thing, or Geralt has a pocket sorcerer he can use whenever he wants to make a portal (and we know how much our beloved Witcher loves portals).
6- THE SLAYING IN KAER MORHEN "No witcher has ever died in his own bed". You mean to tell me that 3 fully trained witchers, with superhuman senses, and a frigging medallion that vibrates like there's no tomorrow at any sign of magic (monsters included), didn't sense Voleth Meir coming from a mile away? The very moment she stepped into Kaer Morhen, those medallions would have been vibrating so strongly you'd think there's an earthquake.
7- VESEMIR They turned one of the wisest and most beloved characters into an old lunatic:
-
he wants to subject Ciri to the trial of grasses (I guess girls can mutate into witchers now because they're "strong").
-
he now apparently knows how to mutate witchers (he never did, the secret of the mutagens was taken to the grave by the sorcerers that made it).
-
we'll just leave killing Ciri to "something necessary" to save whatever remained of the witchers.
With Henry Cavill (one of the only people that care about to books on the set) now quitting Witcher to reprise his role as Superman, I don't think there's any reason to watch the show. I'm sticking to the books.
I disliked the part so much where the just invited some ladies to Kaer Morhen while the supposed to keep the location unknown/ under the radar.
Feels like the show writers just wanted some things to happen no matter what and molded reality however they saw fit having no regard for logic, competent writing or the characters motives.
They had this great idea that yennefer has to lose her powers, and want to tie it to ciri. While also trying to make this "amazing" final scene in kaer morhen where everyone wants to kill ciri (vesemir, yen...) and only the power of love between geral and ciri can save them. So they make yen try to sacrifice ciri for her powers and for even more shock value they want vesemir to try to kill ciri, so they make geralt kill eskel, so vesemir can antagonize geralt in the end (they want you to feel like the stakes are high and ciri battle with the hut granda matters) "Geralt you killed eskel see, so now i kill ciri, we are even".
I think that is their thought process in writing this show, they have this "brilliant" plot twists and force the whole witcher universe to change, they value their ideas more than everything else.
I just finished binge watching all the episodes. My only background to the whole saga are little bit of the 3. game and the Witcher card game. I've watched it without knowing about the controversies that are going on about some of the castings, but now as I do, I wanted to share my thoughts with you and discuss them.
Geralt: At first I thought he was too muscular but man he really is a great cast and is acting so good it's really great.
Yennefer: Now I know that she probably is the most discussed cast decision out of all - and I TOTALLY don't understand it. She's absolutely gorgeous both in acting and also in the looks. The moment she "awakened" and got rid of her disability I was flashed and stunned of how good they hit her character looks to what I knew from my previous sources. And I was left even more breathless later in the episode when she first met Geralt. Her whole badass and "I don't give a sht" attitude and acting paired with her dark, mysterious appearance was the most satisfying thing in the whole season 1 for me. Literally the star of the show imho. Best cast ever.
Ciri: The actress is fine and doing a great job but I had the impression that the Ciri I knew (game 3 and card game) would be a bit older than her, kind of confused me a little bit. Maybe she is growing up in the next season? (I guess I only know adult Ciri from Witcher 3 game)
So I'm curious what you all think! Tell me!
Edit: Note to Yennefer: I absolutely love her - the actress is P E R F E C T imho. Can't stop appreciate her appearance as Yennefer.
