UPDATE: Solved! Check the comments for the solution that worked for me
Hey all,
I've been trying to connect my laptop (ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT-BQ613T) to either my second monitor or my tv screen through HDMI. This has worked perfectly fine in the past, but after I updated it to windows 11, it stopped working. I've tested both the cables and the screens with other devices, and they work, so I don't think they're the problem.
When I plug in the laptop, there does appear to be something happening - at the very least, the monitor lighting up a bit, but then saying 'no signal' anyway. Similarly, when I unplug the cable, the laptop screen turns black for a second. It seems like there's not really any signal being sent through the cable. If I go to the multiple displays settings and click 'detect', it says 'we didn't find another display'.
I've tried a restart, and I've tried updating the display adapter drivers, but windows said that they were already up to date. I've also tried changing the display frequency to either 60 or 40 Hz, but no difference.
I'm not sure what to do next - I'd prefer not to mess with reinstalling the entirety of windows 11. Does anyone have an idea? Please let me know if you need any more info from me. Thanks!

Hi, I tried hard reset - hold power button on your PC till turn off. This simple solution worked.
Can't get my 2nd monitor to work all off a sudden. In Nvidea control panel the box for the monitor is unchecked but i can't check it for some reason.
However windows can still identify the screen in systems.
I am so confused.
My husband just built me a new PC and got Windows 11 downloaded on it. But it doesn't seem to be working with my dual monitor setup. I have two Lenovo monitors, one is connected via HDMI cable, the other connected via DVI cable. When just the HDMI monitor is connected, it works fine. When just the DVI monitor is connected, it works fine. But when I have both connected, only the DVI monitor works and the HDMI monitor can't be detected. I have a DVI port in the back of the computer that connects to the graphics card, and one that connect to the motherboard. Both ports work fine for displaying the DVI monitor, but it's just getting the HDMI monitor to work at the same time that's the issue.
I have tried updating drivers, they're all up to date. I have tried rolling back the drivers, no success. I have tried restarting multiple times and switching cables around. I have tried finding the monitor in the Intel Graphics Command Center, but it's not detected there either.
I see that this is a problem that many people have had all over the place online, but I can't seem to find an answer for what worked in resolving it.
SOLVED: I tried updating drivers via the Device Manager, but consistently got the message that they were up to date. So I ended up downloading GeForce Experience to check for drivers there. Sure enough, there were some drivers that automatically got installed. After installing, the second monitor got detected and started automatically.
Dear Hahn,
thanks for your quick response. The monitor I have is a Dell 2208WFP. I also checked with Dell and from the information I found on the website Dell is NOT supporting Win 11 for this monitor type.
My hardware is a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 and it has an Intel graphics card. I am a bit surprised that this combination of software and hardware is not working anymore. I understand that Dell might be eager to sell more hardware but I think it is not very environmentally friendly to dispose a piece of hardware that is still working fine.
Thanks Olaf
Hi Olaf,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you've already done a thorough check and update of your system. Since the same hardware works well with Windows 10, but not with Windows 11, there might be a compatibility issue or a specific configuration setting causing the problem. Here are a few additional steps you can try:
- Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. If a problem doesn't happen in safe mode, this means that default settings and basic device drivers aren't causing the issue. Observing Windows in safe mode enables you to narrow down the source of a problem, and can help you troubleshoot problems on your PC. Start your PC in safe mode in Windows - Microsoft Support
- Try different display modes: In the display settings, try different display modes such as "Extend" or "Duplicate" to see if the second monitor is detected in any of these modes.
- Driver Reinstall: Although you have updated your drivers, sometimes reinstalling them can resolve detection issues. You can uninstall the driver from Device Manager and then restart the device and Windows will automatically install the driver.
- Graphics Control Panel: If you have Intel Graphics Command Center or Intel Graphics Control Panel installed, check the display settings within these applications to ensure that the second monitor is recognized and configured correctly.
- BIOS/UEFI Settings: Sometimes, certain settings in the BIOS or UEFI firmware can affect external display detection. Check if there are any relevant settings related to display output and adjust them as needed.
- Try a Different Port: If your laptop has multiple display ports (e.g., HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C), try connecting the second monitor to a different port to see if that makes a difference.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may be helpful to contact the manufacturer of your laptop for further assistance, as there could be specific compatibility issues with your hardware configuration and Windows 11.
Your Sincerely
