All the lab activities can be carried out on students' computers. We provide VM images, and all the labs have been tested in the images.

They can now set up a SEED VM using VMWare Fusion Player (free version): Lab Environment Setup for Apple Silicon Machines. We could not find the ARM version of Ubuntu 20.04, so we will install Ubuntu 22.04 instead.

Most of the software package installation steps are automated with shell scripts. We will install many software packages, and we group them into individual shell scripts and they are stored in the lab-setup/ubuntu20.04-vm/src-vm folders of the SEED Labs GitHub repo.

Once the VM is built, we do not want the VM to be updated, because it may break some labs. The OS will keep reminding us about upgrading. We can disable the reminder.
