Sending money
Did you go to Bop.gov, find that institution and see what it says about how to send funds?

You will need their registration/marshals number. It’s an 8 digit number, like so: 12345-678, here’s a link to their website. to get their number
You can use Western Union, Money Gram or Money Order. You should have no problem sending money to someone in federal prison no matter where they are as their account information is the same no matter where they go. But they can not access their account/phone until the day after they arrive. Although, some holdover spots, like the holdover at USP Canaan, they can not use the phone or buy commissary while there.
Western Union, and the western union app, make it VERY easy to send money to people in federal prison.
Money orders go to a specific address in Iowa (make sure their information is on the Money Order). Can’t send a personal check.
Edit: keep checking the website (the link above) to see where your friend is. It updates every business day, not weekends or holidays. So his info should update again soon.
Also, when I left 4 years ago they did not have tablets but I heard they may be coming. You can Google the prison and see if they have a commissary form online. If they do, it will show a tablet if it’s for sale there. You can see the MP3 players, $90
Second edit: here is a sample commissary list from Allenwood they are dated so you can see how current the list is

I don’t know the exact terms, but don’t prisoners have a money account and a place to buy snacks and stuff? And is there a way for a non-family member to put money in that account? How does one go about doing this?
