I ponied up for some expensive sferra giza 45 percale sheets a few weeks ago. When I opened the package, I was immediately impressed by the softness - they were incredible and easily the softest sheets I've ever felt (practically as soft as sateen - I actually first ordered sateen and sent them back because the sateen felt too slippery, like silk). After one wash (gentle cycle, cold water, very small amount of Le Blanc linen wash), the sheets are pretty underwhelming. They're on par with these cheap sheets I bought a few years ago with wrinkle guard from JCP. The giza's are not nearly as soft as they were when I opened the package, even after ironing them (which, to my chagrin, seems absolutely necessary). I haven't washed my duvet cover yet, and it's quite obvious that the sheets are much softer before washing. I'm contemplating sending the duvet cover back and just cutting my losses, but does anyone know what might be going on? does Sferra coat their fabrics for shipping, despite what they say in their welcome card? could hard water be to blame (even just one wash)? I tested my water hardness and it was above average but not crazy. something else? Answer from jauntworthy on reddit.com

My thoughts on Sferra Finna and Giza 45 Percale
Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m a bit more positive on the finna than you but it’s super useful to hear the experiences of people who do spring for the really high end stuff. Did you get fabric swatches before buying the sferra sheets? More on reddit.com
Sferra Giza 45
I read an article in the new Yorker that said Egyptian cotton is just like regular cotton because it has been so badly bred and farmed anymore (for at least the last 15 years). This would explain why it seems there isn't much difference in quality. So it is sort of false advertising. I bought a random towel at a Home Goods store called Feather Touch and it to this day is an anomaly of a cotton fabric and I suspect this is made from real long staple cotton. I cannot find a thing like it anywhere and the brand seems to be defunct. It is like a silky microfiber. I bought it in 2016 or 2017 which might be due to supplies of actual long staple cotton still being available. Leave it to humans to ruin something amazing from nature. More on reddit.com
Sferra Giza 45 Percale vs Finna
Personally, I feel that the Finna is definitely a bit of a step down from the Gizas but I tend to prefer it just on account of it being a bit 'heavier' than the Gizas. Keep in mind that the Gizas are very thin and lightweight and soft as butter, so there definitely is a difference in terms of those factors, but usually most think that once you go Gizas it's hard to go back to anything 'lesser quality' than it, so beware! :P Another brand that has really nice Giza offerings from Bloomingdales that I've heard good things about is Amalia Home's higher offerings (especially their 520TC percale option), which flies under the radar often at Bloomie's sometimes, but would definitely be worth a look, I think, if it's also on sale. Hope that helps and happy shopping, friend! :) More on reddit.com
Underwhelmed by Sferra?
I have a Sferra Celeste just in a pillowcase, and I was definitely underwhelmed with it as well. I have the Finna as well in the percale and it is a night and day difference from the Celeste, far more in line with what I expect from Sferra. A few washes helped, but not as much as I would have liked. I only got the pillowcase to test out what I thought of Celeste, but I have moved it into the category of "not worth it". I also am lucky enough to have the Giza 45 percale just for pillowcases. It is unfair to compare the Celeste to those, they are in a class all their own. More on reddit.com
