Yes, the food is generally really good for an airport, but I'd probably wait to get into the city. Faves include Bun Mee and Starbird in T1, Andale and Napa Farms Market in T2 and Bacon Bacon or SF Giants Clubhouse in T3. Answer from lilstar88 on reddit.com

r/AskSF on Reddit: does SFO have any decent food?
February 25, 2023 -
Some airports have a respectable food scene, sometimes bringing in an express outpost of a local specialty.
My flight is arriving late evening and I'll probably be starving. Anywhere recommended in the airport or just wait to get into the city?

Hard to give a rec since different terminals have different vendors. One thing tho is that if you're getting in late the better options might not be open. Also, hard to recommend eating quickly vs. going to wherever you're staying cuz where are you staying? But general info: Food at SFO is better than at most airports but not as good as non-airport food and also it's pricey. San Francisco does not stay up as late as many would guess. Late night food can be hard to find in most neighborhoods. There are some excellent exceptions.

If you’re arriving late, you could stop at In-n-out on your way into the city. Either at Millbrae or Daly City. They close at 1 on weekdays, 1:30 on weekends.

Hey all, I’m looking for a decent meal for a reasonable price at the airport. Most of the stuff at the airport seems very over priced for what it actually is. Any suggestions?
I’m currently an employee at SFO, so it doesn’t matter where the restaurant is. Worst case scenario is that I have to take the Air train.

The Ultimate Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Killing Time at San Francisco International Airport
December 6, 2023 - This guide looks beyond the stores, restaurant chains, and bars you'll see in every major transit center to focus on the locally-owned hidden gems and small businesses serving up city-specific cuisines in each terminal. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is genuinely one of the best airports for gourmandism in the country. That means you’re out of luck if you’re looking for standard airport fare like pretzels from Auntie Anne’s or a Cinnabon cinnamon roll. In fact, the only mainstream fast food is a Burger King in Terminal 3 and a Wendy’s in the Main Hall of Ed Lee International (pre-security).

November 26, 2025 - Honestly that’s on you for thinking that 1/ standing in line for an hour 2/ at an airport and 3/ for Carl’s Jr was in any way a good idea ... Standing in line is more appealing at an airport than anywhere else because you have time to kill anyway, and a lot of people prefer to do it standing if they know they're going to have to sit for the next 12 hours. ... I mean, I'd do it again if I actually could get the burger at the end. The sandwich was pretty awful and cost like $25. That airport really sucks for food. SFO has much better options (obviously not as good as OAK and SJC, as they're hidden gems of the Bay Area).
