Yes, the food is generally really good for an airport, but I'd probably wait to get into the city. Faves include Bun Mee and Starbird in T1, Andale and Napa Farms Market in T2 and Bacon Bacon or SF Giants Clubhouse in T3. Answer from lilstar88 on reddit.com

Hey all, I’m looking for a decent meal for a reasonable price at the airport. Most of the stuff at the airport seems very over priced for what it actually is. Any suggestions?

I’m currently an employee at SFO, so it doesn’t matter where the restaurant is. Worst case scenario is that I have to take the Air train.

r/sanfrancisco on Reddit: SFO Harvey Milk Terminal is S-Tier
June 21, 2024 -

Every time I fly in and out of Terminal 1 I'm so proud that this is in our city. Rotating museum exhibits that are genuinely well done, interesting and engaging art, local food and shopping options, lots of device charging, seating, pleasant clean architecture, the list goes on.

Whenever I used to travel in Europe I would get super jealous of how nice so many of those airports are. I feel like Harvey Milk Terminal meets and exceeds my hopes for what an airport terminal should be in the 2020s.

There are criticisms to be had about SFO, and there is certainly a conversation about the commodification of SF food and brands, but still - it's a refreshing travel experience in a country full of horrendously bullshit airports.

My biggest complaint is that because I live here, I'm usually in and out and don't get to actually spend much time here. I'm usually stuck in like, O'Hare or something.

Edit: I forgot the bathrooms! I'm peeing in here as we speak and the vibe is immaculate. Great chill jazzy music too.

Hiii. I have an upcoming international flight that returns to the U.S. via SFO (international terminal I) and then the connecting flight to my home state departs from T3. I have a 4 hour layover at SFO, 6:55 pm- 10:55 pm.

Is this enough time for me to go through customs, collect my bag, recheck my bag, and travel to T1 for Amy’s Drive Thru (I’m vegan) before heading to T3 for my final flight home?

I’m not familiar with this airport and saw I may need to take an airport train between terminals? If you don’t think there’s enough time to stop in T1 for Amy’s, anyone have vegan recs for food in T3? Thanks!

Friend is flying out of SFO after a work trip and best time for us to catch up is the day of their flight. Is there a good spot in the airport that we can both access (me without a boarding pass) or somewhere walkable from the BART station that you would recommend?

I’ve got a 13hr layover in SFO and plan on heading to the city to sight see a bit and eat something! At the same time i want to buy something yummy home as a surprise for my husband. not sure what is famous in SFO, but top of my mind i’m thinking maybe bakes, pastries?

Pls suggest what food i could bring home with me on the plane! It has to be able to keep/pass immigration (so nothing liquid / frozen perishables)

/edit: adding some extra details! im flying to Singapore and it’s a 17 hr flight

I’ve got a morning domestic flight with Alaska and I’m wondering what my best option is for breakfast. It doesn’t look like there’s much in the way of food in the Alaska lounge. I’m Oneworld Sapphire, but the website doesn’t seem to have any other options for Terminal 2. Is my best option to find a restaurant?

UPDATE: I can confirm the breakfast in the SFO Alaska lounge is good. Bagels, English muffins, scrambled eggs, maple sausage (so tasty), oatmeal, sweet muffins, sourdough, meats, cheeses and of course the famous pancake machine (which was working!).

My flight got delayed several hours, so location isn't an issue as long as I don't have to leave through security from T 3.

I also have a few food vouchers so I'm not concerned with price.

I'm craving something like a croissant sandwich with real thick cut bacon. None of that soggy nonsense.

Edit: my travel companions are feeling less adventurous than me and would prefer to stay in terminal 3. Any recs are still welcome though as I'm here often.

Final edit: We ended up at Bacon Bacon and were not disappointed. I'll definitely be going there again! Thanks for the recs!

International flight landing at SFO, I have 6 hours before a domestic flight. First, is it even reasonable to consider leaving the airport for that amount of time?

If yes, where should I go for lunch? Somewhere that’s uniquely San Francisco. I’m Australian, if that context helps anyone.

UPDATE: thank you all for the recommendations! I landed about 1.30pm, and by the time I went through immigrations etc and made it to T1 to look at storing my bag it was 3pm. All that is to say I’ll probably just stay in the airport now, but will check out some of the places on my way back! Thank you all again.

Take BART, get off on 16th St Station walk Valencia St (South) - walk, eat, window shop, explore - walk all the way to 24th St and get on Mission Street. Take BART back. There's so many places to eat and drink there... That's a good 90-120 minutes give or take, not including the train ride. Also, you could get off on 24th St, walk Valencia St (North) until you get to 16th St, then walk on Mission St (South) towards the 24 St Station. Alternatively, you could take BART to the Embarcadero Station, explore the Ferry Building, walk North up to Fisherman’s Wharf, then reverse the process to get back.

Well it depends how much time you actually have once you clear customs. I'd say take BART to 24th St Mission and walk a block south to get a burrito at La Taqueria. Or alternatively, a burrito at El Farolito. Then, walk to 20th and Valencia for gelato at Hila, check out Dog Eared Books if you want a book for your connecting flight, walk up to 20th and Church for the view from the top of Dolores Park, walk through the park and people watch if the weather is good, then go back to 24th and Mission to catch the BART train back to the airport. Maybe stop by Mission Cannabis Club before heading back if that's your thing, they have a lounge area for consumption. I wouldn't recommend traveling through airport security in possession of product purchased there, however. For BART you will need a clipper card. You can buy a physical card at the airport or get a free virtual card (link below). The fare between the airport and 24th St Mission is $10.90 each way, so $21.80 for the roundtrip. And the journey takes around 25 minutes each way, and the train is every 10 minutes ish, so plan for 35 minutes. Plus another 10 minutes to get to the domestic terminal for your next flight. https://www.clippercard.com/ClipperWeb/pay-with-phone
