r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Shark Cordless Stratos Costco
December 14, 2024 -

Hi everyone, I need your help! I live in a 700 sqft one bedroom and I don’t have pets. I’ve been shopping for a cordless vacuum for a while. I’m currently using an Old Shark vacuum with cord that my friend gave me for free. It does the job but I really want something cordless. I always wanted to buy the Dyson V15. My friends tell me it’s amazing & it’s a must buy. However, it’s a bit pricey.. and looking in this sub, apparently the Miele with cord is the best. Anyways, my place is always clean and I’m not messy at all. I’m looking for something that will do the job but not something cheap. I’ve been thinking to buy the Shark Stratos. It is currently on sale at Costco for 300$ CAD. Worst case, I can buy and return it. I wanted to know what do you guys think of my situation and if I should buy the Stratos. If not, any other recommendations for a good price? I live in Canada btw!

Thank you all in advance!

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Costco Shark upright vacuums
January 18, 2024 -

Hi all, I've been doing some research into which bagless upright vacuum to get.

To give a quick rundown of my situation:

  • ~650 sq. ft. apartment.

  • The flooring is all hardwood except for tile in the bathroom, with a few small low-pile rugs (kitchen mat, bath mat, under chair — not a big concern at all).

  • I have a very furry cat that sheds a lot. The hair is so fine that you literally can't even tell it's there until you sweep a large enough area for it to build up into a pile.

I already have a Roborock Q5 Pro running daily, but I still end up with cat hair stuck to the bottom of my socks at the end of the day. So, this is primarily what I'm trying to target.

I;ve read through plenty of threads on this sub and understand that everyone believes bagless vacuums are terrible and so are the common consumer brands like Shark, Bissell, Hoover, etc. However, I like the features these models offer and I've personally had good past experiences with Shark. And, if I buy from Costco, I know I have extra protection in case something goes wrong in the future.

With all that said, I'm looking at these 3 Shark models:

  • Shark DuoClean Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with Self-Cleaning Brushroll (UV700)

  • Shark Navigator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with Self-Cleaning Brushroll (UV725)

  • Shark Performance Plus Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with Odor Neutralizer (UV900)

However, I can't really tell what the differences between them are and which one would be best for my use case. These seem to be Costco-exclusive models so I can't find much about them online and the descriptions aren't very helpful.

  • It looks like the DuoClean has two bristle brushes, the Performance Plus has one rubber brush and one bristle brush, and I assume the Navigator only has one combo bristle/rubber brush. I've read that bristle brushes may be better for picking up pet hair, at the expense of being more difficult to clean.

  • The attachments are not a concern. They all look good enough to me and I seldom use them anyways.

  • I do like the idea of the odor neutralizer functionality on the Performance Plus since the apartment does have a bit of a cat smell to it, but I assume it doesn't make a massive difference.

  • Finally, price is not a concern. Just looking for the best one out of these 3.

I did also look at the Dyson Ball Animal 3+, but found a few comments saying that it was worse than Shark. I'm not too big of a fan of the ball design (seems like it would be hard to fit in certain areas) and don't like that it's missing LEDs/laser. However, if it is in fact better than the 3 Sharks, I'll definitely consider it again.

Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance.

Among the Shark vacuums at Costco the Navigator UV725 will be the most reliable because it has the single brushroll head. The single brushroll is actually better at cleaning carpets than the duoclean brushrolls although that isn't your primary concern. If you have delicate wood floors I wouldn't recommend any of the Sharks because their brushes are always on even on hard floor modes, they only slow down. The single brushroll isn't harder to clean, unfortunately, you can only remove the front soft brushrolls on the duocleans so the main brushrolls on the duocleans are just as hard to clean. I think the Dyson Ball Animal 3+ is better than Shark vacuums. Dysons tend to be more expensive but this Dyson is cheaper than the Shark Performance Plus/Stratos. I agree the Dyson Ball Animal is heavy and the swivel steering isn't that great, but it is a better vacuum than Shark. Dyson has a multi-cyclone separator, Shark only uses a single cyclone. Dyson Ball Animal 3 has a bigger bin and a longer cord. So if I had to choose from Costco's options I would choose the Dyson Ball Animal 3. Also let me throw in an alternative the Soniclean WhisperJet C2 $249. Hear me out, German made, hepa bags, it has a gulper floor tool so it won't get any hair tangles. It has an automatic cord rewinder. Downside the gulper tools isn't great on rugs so you'll need to add a turbo brush or a combo brush. It's super quiet, trust me your ears and your cat will love the lack of noise.

And, if I buy from Costco, I know I have extra protection in case something goes wrong in the future. I mean you do you I guess. But I'd take a ten year warranty on a SEBO with easily obtained repair parts over hoping a Shark or Dyson doesn't do exactly what it was designed to do and die. Costco protection plan is not going to save you from bagless vacuum cleaners being built to be disposable. Also not a matter of people here thinking all consumer brands are terrible, Hoover's and Bissell's get recommended from time to time depending on budget. Shark and Dyson however, are pretty solidly not good.
