Hi all,
I’m trying to choose a cordless vacuum to go with my Miele Complete C3, which is currently in for repair. I’ve had it a while and it’s insured with Domestic & General, so hoping it comes back good as new.
I’ve tried the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute and Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty (IP3251UKT). The Dyson is lighter and works well, but it’s expensive. I can get it cheaper from Dyson’s eBay outlet, but it only comes with a 1-year warranty.
The Shark PowerDetect is good but heavier, and I don’t think I have space for the auto-empty dock.
I’m also looking at the Shark Stratos IZ420UKT, which seems a good balance lighter than the PowerDetect and comes with a 5-year warranty.
I need something cordless, bagless, reliable and easy for daily use. Any recommendations or long-term experiences with these vacuum cleaners please?
Hello everyone.
I've been looking for a new vacuum cleaner for a while. I did quite a lot of research and I have shortlisted two models, or rather three in fact.
Still debating between Shark Stratos IZ420 or Dyson, V15 (also the newest model Gen5).
Important features for me and my allergic wife are as follows.
_ A must:
• excellent for allergies, especially in terms of vacuuming dust mites
• very good suction, so basically what a vacuum should do. This includes motorised rolls.
• ergonomic, i.e. easy to manoeuvre and no hassle change of attachments (two storey house)
_ Good to have:
• very good battery time
• good lighting on a nozzle
• docking/easy charging
_ Important but not crucial:
• weight
• dust capacity
• price
_ I rejected Samsung Bespoke Jet Pro Extra due to the front roll not being motorised. Also Kärcher VC7 due to very basic nozzle. Bosch Unlimited 7 has low battery time and a small dust capacity (0.3 l).
Which vacuum would be a better choice? Shark Stratos seems be a good one, but I'm afraid that its bulky nozzle won't vaccum particles close to the floor skirts. Dyson models on the other hand are bloody expensive (especially the Gen5 model), and I might be regretting money I would spent if other models could basically do the same job, but the laser technology and levels of captured allergens seem to be great features.
Thanks for advising me.

Hi all,

I currently have an older Shark Duoclean that just can't handle the hair. Between the short dog hair and long human hair, it's hopelessly outmatched.
My research has led me to the Dyson V15 and Shark Stratos for homes like mine with serious hair situations. Are there other contenders I should consider? Preferably not more expensive than the V15.
Between the Dyson and the Shark, what I'm really interested in is which will have the least maintenance due to hair tangles and hair clogs. My home is 90% hardwood and tile, so carpet performance doesn't matter much. And I'm confident that both will clean well enough for me. I know based on reviews that Dyson cleans marginally better but I do not care. I care about the least amount of headache due to long, short and medium hair. I have all of it.
Is one of these vacuums superior for my situation? None of the comparisons I have read spend much time talking about hair performance, or clearly say which handles hair best, so it always ends up sounding like a tie.
The V15 comes with multiple heads. Only the soft one has the super fancy green laser detect system but the head without the laser (or ANY lights) is best for hair. So I would probably use that one exclusively, which means I'm spending a lot of money for tech I won't use, and I will have no headlights. The Dyson also has a third "hair screw" head and I'm not clear on how that differs from the other two.
Shark doesn't have interchangeable heads so I will always have lights on board, which I think are useful. And I don't need to find a place to store heads that aren't in use.
Shark Stratos, Tineco S15, or Dyson V10 absolute?
Looking for a good stick vacuum mostly for hardwood floors and let hair but also good for carpet. The Dyson is on sale right now but I've also seen some good stuff about the Shark.
Does anyone have experience with them or any thoughts on these? Looking to keep it in this price range.
My Dyson animal v11 died. I cannot figure out what is wrong with it after taking it apart to clean/check for any clogs, scrub the filter and all parts, etc. battery is fully charged and occasionally sputters to life for 2 seconds before dying again and refusing to turn on when I pull the trigger. Looking to replace it as Dyson customer support hasn’t gotten me anywhere and I can’t find a local repair shop to work on cordless Dysons. Im torn between replacing with/upgrading to another Dyson (looking at Dyson v15 submarine absolute) or jumping ship to Shark. I do not see a shark comparable to the v15 submarine but would likely replace with the shark stratos cordless.
Here are the considerations:
50% carpet/50% hardwood 2x daily use ~2000 sq ft home Pet hair
Budget is ideally under $1000, but that Dyson is in the running so this is negotiable at this point
Any recommendations for one brand versus the other?
I have a Dyson V8 and the battery is toast, so we are looking to buy a new vaccum.
We have a cat and I shed a lot too...maybe more than the cat.
We don't mind staying with Dyson, but I was looking at buying Dyson V15 Detect and it's $800ish on sale right now. Not sure if it's worth it.
I've heard good things about Shark. However, I am not sure what model to consider.
Any thoughts on Dyson VS shark? Is V15 Detect worth it?
What ones would you guys consider ?, average 4 bedroom house in europe with just stairs and landing carpeted and some rugs in bedrooms/living rooms.
Already have a corded wet vac for carpets and previously had a Bosh cordless stick vaccuum that has a integrated battery. ( lasts about 2 mins now and can't be replaced ).
The dyson V15s and gen5 detect are around 700e and the shark stratos( comes with extra battery ) + shark steam mop is around 500e total.
I have seen the sebo or miele c3 etc but I don't want a corded bagged vaccuums because they are harder to lug around and take more floor space to store.
So which one of those or any other suggestions for cordless stick vaccumes ?, budget is max around 700e
Thanks
I’m looking for input on purchasing a stick cordless vacuum.
Budget: $250-$500
Flooring: 60% hardwood, 30% tile, 10% rug/carpet. Small apartment, 700 sq ft total.
I’m open to other cordless vacuum suggestions, but the features I’ve identified that I really want/need are
lights/laser on the main vacuum head (my apartment is dark, all light helps)
auto-adapting to increase power for areas with more dirt
conversion to easy to use hand held.
I like the idea of the flex feature to get under furniture on the Shark but I think I would be ok without it.
This is more for quick/maintenance cleaning rather than deep cleaning.
I had a Dyson before and liked it a lot. I’ve also used both the Tineco S11 and A10 when visiting relatives and thought they were fine.
I have narrowed it down to the Dyson v12, tineco s11, and shark stratos based on the features I had identified, but open to other suggestions. My concern about the Shark is converting it to a comfortable to use handheld and the weight. The Dyson is pricier and not sure if it’s worth it. The Tineco is the cheapest but it wasn’t my favorite when using it before.
I know the dyson v12 is slightly above budget but I’m willing to be flexible a bit if it’s worth it.
I had eliminated LG and Samsung because they seemed to lack the LED lights.
Thanks for any advice you have!
We are trying to decide between these 2, any recommendations? Pretty average use, no pets for now, some carpets but not much. We live in Israel and I don’t know if I should include budget because I’ve included the two models.
Hi all,
I am looking to finally invest in a good vacuum for my condo. With sales in my area the Dyson V8 Animal Extra Cordless Stick and the Shark Stratos Cordless Stick are on sale for the same price.
Taking price out of the equation completely, which of these vacuums would you recommend more?
Some details:
I have a dog that sheds a little bit but not much
Not a very big condo so don't need a lot of run time
All hardwood floors
Thank you in advance for your help! I just cannot decide and haven't ever bought myself a vacuum so I'm quite overwhelmed with all the research trying to decide.
Hi all
Apologies in advance for the long/detailed post.
I've been doing a heap of research, reading reviews, info from vacuum techs, comparison companies etc etc, and have narrowed it down to the following options, and have noted my thoughts/concerns underneath each: (I'm in Australia if that matters)
a) Dyson V15 Detect (Absolute)
| PROS | CONS |
|---|---|
| * Powerful - 240 AW | * No stand (comes with wall dock, and extra tools can attach to the wand clip, but I was hoping for a stand like the Floor Dok with room for all tools, so might have to purchase that as an extra) |
| * Lightweight - 3.1kg | * Have to hold the trigger down |
b) Dyson Gen5 Detect (Complete)
| PROS | CONS |
|---|---|
| * Most powerful - 280 AW | * Very heavy - 3.5kg |
| * Single power button | * Many reviews stating that the wheel on the head breaks off |
| * Tools built into inside of the handle | * No low-reach |
c) Shark Detect Pro with Auto Empty
| PROS | CONS |
|---|---|
| * Auto empty | * Much lower power - 123 AW |
| * Single power button | * Smaller capacity - .042L vs 0.77L Dysons |
| * Bends low under furniture | |
| * Super lightweight - 2.7kg |
d) Shark PowerDetect Clean and Empty
| PROS | CONS |
|---|---|
| * Auto empty | * Heaviest of all - 3.6kg |
| * Single power button | * Lowest power - 120 AW |
| * Bends low under furniture |
So... on paper, the Dysons seem to be the better choice due to being more powerful.
However, the "auto empty" feature of the Shark is very appealing. Love that idea.
AND even though Dyson are known for high quality (historically at least... I know there's haters here) - for whatever reason, I keep seeing Shark vacuums recommended by people who said they've always had Dysons, changed to Shark and never looked back - they love them.
So I'm confused. I *think* I'm leaning towards the Dyson V15... I love the idea of the Gen5 single power button, and the most power, and all the extra tools - BUT the weight of it, and the multiple reports of the little wheel thing breaking puts me off a bit.
I'm a small (5'1) woman, with joint/muscle pain issues on and off - hence why the trigger/power button thing is something I've noted. Our current Dyson V8 is only 2.3kg, which is a huge difference to all of these ones. But my issues aren't so severe that I probably can't just put up with the extra weight for a bit while I do a quick vacuum. I dunno... what do you all think? Is it a noticeably big difference, does it cause issues?
Our house - hardwood floors through the living areas, tiles in bathrooms, carpet in bedrooms.
! Argh! Help me decide!
I'd really love to hear from u/JohnnyHucky - I've read heaps of your comments, and despite the hate for some brands on these forums, you always have a very fair and measured response, and are primarily concerned with helping people vs just spouting off about your favourite brand.
To anyone who bothered to read this all - thanksssssss :)
