r/paint on Reddit: Sand SW Emerald Urethane between coats?
May 29, 2024 -
I’m getting ready to spray a cabinet with an HVLP and am wondering if Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane needs to be sanded between coats.
Cabinet is primed, sanded, and ready to go.

Only reason to sand between coats when spraying is if there’s any raised grains. If so, lightly sand with a fine grit, wipe with tack cloth then recoat. https://www.sherwin-williams.com/document/PDS/en/035777948040/

Replying to @Spécimen chèque Painting kitchen cabinets! These are stock cabinets from home depot and I am using sherwin williams emerald urethane paint in the color Gossamer Veil ( satin finish ). I ended up having to use two types of primers on these doors ( Bin shellac primer & sherwin williams extreme bond ) I ran out mid way through painting of rhe shellac one 🫠 Before painting the color I lightly sanded all sides of the doors with a combination of steel wool pads ( medium ) & 150 grit sanding block. I did 3 coats of the color on the doors! #houseproject #kitchencabinets #homedepotcabinets #hamptonbaycabinets #paintingkitchencabinets #sherwinwilliamsemeraldurethane #kitchenreno #affordablerenovations | TikTok

August 13, 2020 - It easily sands to powder w/o clogging the sandpaper, too, and the bond seemed very good. Overall, I think it's a winner, but it needs to be thinned quite a lot even with my pressure assisted HVLP gun. Today I sprayed the first coat of the Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel.

October 6, 2019 - Long story short, I'm fixing a couple of doors that have some brush marks on em and the finish needs to be spray finish, with the Emerald urethane. So I try what I know usually works for me in obtaining a smooth finish, I wet sand the areas. Although when I do this, i am getting white build up from the urethane paint that almost becomes pasty. Am I not to wet sand it or even just sand it if it's not cured completely? I wiped off the residue before I sprayed the doors. I gave 2 light coats but only let 1st coat dry for maybe 20 mins.

Recommended Finish On Top of Sherwin Williams Emerald Satin Paint | Sawmill Creek Woodworking Community
October 8, 2021 - For your next projects that are similar, consider using a paint that is non-blocking and durable, such as ProClassic or the Emerald Urethane enamel. That addresses your third question. BTW, 'non-blocking' means stuff you set on the shelves will not stick to the paint...that's a common issue with "normal" house paint and the real problem here. The Emerald satin paint you used is already pretty durable. If you do top coat, let the paint have plenty of time to cure and settle.

How To Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets in 5 Easy Steps
Gently smooth out the primer coat, then wipe the primed cabinets with a damp cloth to remove any debris before applying your first coat of paint. ... Using a 1" or a 1½" angled brush, first apply paint to the recessed or detailed areas of the cabinet door. Avoid getting brush marks on the flatter and smoother areas. Next, immediately paint the remaining flat areas of the door using a mini roller. Gently roll over any overlapping brush marks or paint drips to smooth the surface. Tip: Emerald® Urethane Trim Enamel, Gloss, Semi-Gloss or Satin Sheen is a perfect choice for top coat paint because it has excellent flow and leveling characteristics, which means a smooth and durable finish on cabinets, doors and trim.

How to Paint Cabinets: Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel Review | Dans le Lakehouse
April 1, 2021 - This Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel paint is exceptional quality. It really does level out and smooth as it dries! There were brush strokes visible right after I painted them, but they really did disappear! In the past, I chose a semi-gloss finish but this time I chose a satin and I love the velvety finish. The finish looks amazingly smooth, has held up to wear and tear, and it cured perfectly – no issues, even with only one coat of troublesome primer.
